anyone ever used one of these? I found them on VintageSynth.com and they seem like nifty little boxes (with some cool sounds and features). Price seems really nice, too. I missed an ebay auction last week for a mint Elevata for $275 (valued @ $900 according to VintageSynth.com). So last night I said what the hell and did a Buy It Now for a like new Darkstar XP2. $160. Should be here within a week or so.
The design philosophy of these synths seems pretty cool. There are user upgradable and insertable EPROM chips that you can buy for about $100 each that can add features (i.e. a vocoder), or can drastically alter the way the synth works. I've been pretty impressed with the sound examples that I've heard, and for the price I paid, if I don't like it, it's not much of a loss. I could probably resell it for what I paid for it.
