Alright, HI guys, First post :), i know this has been posted before... but always prices changes..

I want to buy my first synth, i already have a Yamaha PSR... its called "TRIsTON" :) Spanish ppl will understand what i mean

I cant choose between the Alesis QS 8.2 and a Yamaha S08

both looks good to me, i have searched this forum and this looks to be the "eternal question" but i dont know.. is the Alesis that bad compared to Yam S08 ?

This is because..

Alesis QS 8.2 > $1400
Yamaha S08 > $1500

And i dont know... I want the Alesis one, but i have more experience with Yamaha, and dont knoww ! Help a poor boy :(

Where i could find some Alesis and Yamaha (models above) demos ?

Does the Alesis have some nice Strings ? Piano ? Brass Section ? And the Yamaha?

would i be able to create my own sounds? Synths ? Download some sounds from Internet and load them up in QS/S08 ?

Any help will be apreciated

Cheers

I like Alesis a lot, and already own a QS. I don't like Yamaha but have to say their flagships really rock. For patch uploading, I think both instruments aren't covered enough to rely on programs or mixes from the Net. Indeed, I'd rely only on Triton and K2XXX for the purpose of uploading patches (Best of VAST was claimed as the definitive patch bank).
Well, now it's up to you. Both boards are nice and work nice, IMHO. Brasses, strings and piano from Alesis have never delighted me that much, I use much better my Triton Le for orchestral patches. Instead, Alesis has nice Organs, Synths are enjoyable, Basses just work, Leads sound nice (P106 - ShineOn... is absolutely great for Pull Me Under), and there are some quotes around the patches for prog maniacs (Keith's C3, AquaTarkus, EmersonSaw & similar). Also, Keith Emerson has been playing QS8 on tour, so...you do the math :).

Dear Rush,

Given the choice between the Alesis Qs8.2 and the Yamaha S08, I'd go for the Alesis. The S08 is not expandable nor does it have aftertouch. They both sound decent. I do like the Alesis strings. They're pretty good. Soundwise, it's a subjective toss-up, but I think the QS8.2 offers more features.
