Hi everyone! I'm writing this cause I need some advice.
The thing is I'm having serious problems deciding what to buy: yamaha s90 or Kurz PC2x.
I'm not into programming, so a comparison of sound quality and key action would suffice.
Anyone that has both or has had the opportunity to compare them.
All help will be appreciated.
P.S. Does anyone know if there will be K2600's with smart media drives instead of floppies in the future. diskettes are really a thing of the past.

Okay, real quick because I'm late for work:
- The s-90 is a SYNTH. It's able to make it's own sounds through synthesis, it can alter the waveforms that it has in it's memory already and change and manipulate the sound.
- The PC2X is a Rompler - It just plays back samples. There IS some editing ability, but generally speaking you couldn't actually MAKE a sound. You CAN layer them, etc..
The S90 as it was described to me is that it's a Motif without Sampling and a Sequencer. *basically*
About the 2600 - The 2661 I believe has what you're talking about. I agree that the disks are becoming out-dated, but instead of a smart media card, I'd rather have USB 2.0... Just because the kurzweil *for me* always just sits beside my computer. I don't have smartmedia slots, but I DO have the second gen' USB slots.
*the 2661 is the 61 revised version of the Kurzweil 2600*

They are pretty dramatically different instruments. I would recommend you try to play them for yourself.
The PC2 has an edge with some of the orchestral sounds but its editing capability is limited.
The S90 is a full blown synth like the Motif and also has polyphony and ROM expansions available from PLG cards. Things like the DX and Analog PLG boards really are amazing.
Both are powerful controller keyboards but in the end, the sound of them would come down to personal taste.

Mike Martin, well said! You could always buy a s90 , and get a rack. A pc2 rack, or even a k2600 rack.

With PC2X you pay the Kurzweil brand.
With S90 you pay a good overall synth, which works quite well in many circumstances...
Still, PC2X has good sounds even if editing's really minor. You should check them in a store...
