View Full Version : Cases
Right, I need to sort out something to take my keys to gigs. I know most people have flight cases or hard cases, but I simply can't afford one. Would anyone think that a gig bag/padded bag would be a bad idea for taking your keys on the road? It's just I really need something and can't afford much yet.
Thanks in advance

For whici board?how many keys?
I bought one of these for my kurz pc1-x. I could afford for a hard case but I wouldn't (yes there are expensive even more for 88 boards) But carrying a 55 pounds keyboard and a 30 pounds or more I don't know case would kill me!So I chose one of those. And they're are great. they are full of foam and it protect my board great!
P.D. sorry I tought that I could give you the link but it seems that musician's friend is having problems. But is one of those 88 gig bags that musicians friend sells. It from a brand call kaces.
I found it: http://www.aceproducts.com/porter.html
It's doesn't have all those colors though

For one keyboard, a bag is OK for me. I carried my XP80 a lot with a bag and had no problem. Now if I want to carry 2 keyboards, I know I'll need a case, so that I can put one above the other in the car.
The problem is... if I carry my XP80 in a case, I can't put it in my car! I should have bought a van...

You could always put it on your roof...
I personally, would ALWAYS go for a hardcase. Back when I had a PSR-whatever, I used a soft case. I put it in the back of someone's van on the way to a practice, something fell against it, and it shattered beyond repair.
I'd get your parents/friends/bank to lend you the cash for a proper flight case - it's a bit bulkier, and heavier, but if you put wheels on it, it'd be easier to transport, and you'd feel a LOT better knowing your prized keys are safely tucked away...

Yes the roof, it's still a possibility for when I'll need 2 boards on stage (and when I'm back in a band as well... LOL)
It's for an M-Audio keystation pro 88, so pretty big case, hence why I can't afford a flight case yet. I will get one eventually, just I need something now for some gigs before I have any decent form of income.
I guess I'll have to just be careful who I put it into vans then for now. ;)
Thanks for your thoughts!

You have got a choice.. you buy a softcase, which is good as long as you are carefull with the synth, and it isnīt very heavy.. or you buy a flightcase and risk destroying your back.. so do you want to save your back or your synth?:P

I have one of those and bought the big mama SKB flight case for it... Trick is to wait for Guitar Center to have one of their big close door sales... I got them to sell me the giant 88 and the 61 for my Motif for $300 total, tax included.
Pricey? yeah, but well worth it... I could toss this thing down a flight of steps and not worry about any damage.

I was in the market for picking up a case for my ROland Fantom X8, and I needed somthing to transport it to and from the store (cause I previously owned the S88, and it kept crapping out on me). So, I was gonna pick up a case for $90 (Canadian), but when I got to the store, it was gone. There was another case for $129, and I wasn't expecting to spend another $40, but this one had wheels (while the other did not). Out of desperation, I picked up the pricier one, and sweet jeesus!!! I was never happier!!! The lil wheels on the end will REALLY save your back!!! This thing is padded fairly well to protect your keyboard, but the wheels....THE WHEELS!!! They are just lil' Wonder Disks. Try to find a well padded case with wheels and you'll never look back......unless your rich or famous (or both), and you can afford the proper roadie cases with Roadies taking your stuff to and from.

Except to the steps and whoever's at the bottom....

I bought a padded softcase with wheels (on one end) for my K2600XS. It's solid enough to protect it in my SUV.
What I abolutely HATE about it is the damn keybard is so heavy that when I cart it around, the molding around the wheels (which are hard plastic of course) scrapes the ground. Holy Crap!
