First you need a hella fast computer with a low latency soundcard. A measley Soundblaster 16 isn't going to do the trick.
Then you need a MIDI interface *usually included in decent soundcards* and a midi controller, or a keyboard that has MIDI :)
THEN you need the software. This can be Absynth 1.3 *there's a standalone* or Native Instruments B4 hammond set *also a standalone kicking around somewhere*
Then if you're running Sonar 3.0 or Cubase or something similar, there's sometimes VST support and those will allow you to hook up a VST and control that as your sound source from the computer.

There's more then that but that's the basics - When you get these, come back and we'll show you where to go next :)

As far as software sampling is concerned, I'd check out MOTU's Mach5, its for the PC or MAC and is compatible with any sequencer that you may have. It can load in WAV, AIFF and Kurzweil sample libraries amongst others like Akai etc. I don't think it can import soundfonts but you can also get this software called CDXtract which can convert between formats so you could use this software to convert soundfonts to Kurzweil and then import into MACH5. It looks like the best soft Sampler on the market IMHO. :D

www.MOTU.com

P.S Derek Sherinian is endorsing it so must be pretty cool. I bet Jordan has also got a copy of MACH5 seeing as he is also an MOTU endorser.

Hi...I Have a fast computer with soundblaster platinum, i dont have lantency...does CDXTract convert sound font to KRZ ? I have Absynth 2.0, and sonar 2.0 with the Livesynthpro plugin, do you know any other plugin ? or another program other than above, that reads soundfont or aiff or wav...??

I also have a Mac G4 with Digi001 and want to use this mach5 for mac, do you know good samples in wav or aiff or soundfont, to find on the net ?

and other doubt i would please like to know, what does the Native Instruments Reaktor do ? what is the finallity of the program ? Recording ? Sampling ? Sound Processor ?

Thank you...

I think CDXtract can convert Soundfonts to KRZ (thats if this format is kurzweil format as I'm not too sure). VSampler reads soundfont2 and .wav files as does N.I.Kontakt/Kompakt. AS far as samples go, you can go to www.primesounds.com, if you join you can download tons of samples in various formats but depending on what level of access you pay for. But do a web search you'll find lots of sites where you can download samples from.

I've been finding out about NI Reaktor myself, the best thing to do is download the demo of Reaktor4, its basically a modular sound studio, you can create your own synths, samplers, drum machines and FX processors using reaktor or you can use the tons of ready made devices which come with reaktor or user downloadable devices from N.I. Reaktor is a program which you'll need to learn a lot to get the most out of, its very deep. But you could get Reaktor Sessions which is basically a collection of 30 ready made reaktor devices like synths, samplers, drum machines and fx.

I am having a strange problem, i have an Absynth 2.0, and a Kontakt...When i run the absynth it has no latency, but the kontakt presents latency, why this happen ? How can i remove this latency ? I am talking about the pc, that is very fast, and have a Sound Blaster Platinum). I dont have this programs for mac...

How can i change the format wav or aiff, or sf2 to glo (absynth format) ??

Thank You...

hey, i'm thinking about getting kontakt and would also need a good sound card. would you say that kontakt is well worth the money? i'm wanting to do the same thing ...basically hook up my keyboard via midi to the computer and play real-time with some great sounding samples on the computer.

is there a different software program i should be looking at besides kontakt?

what about the sound card? i am thinking about the audigy 2 zs platinum pro, but that's kinda pricey. know where i can get a great price on one? thanks.

Hey...Kontakt is good software, i am using it and i am very satisfied...It can read both soundfont (you need to convert to nki extension), wav, aiff and others...I have a sound blaster live platinum and a Athlon 2.0+ and i have no latency. The most important is that you must have a computer with stability (Macintosh, or a Pc with a well tuned hardware). I think audigy will do the work very good, but dont forgot with any soundcard you have, you must work with the lastest driver for it. On my case this did the diference, I used an old driver, and them i downloaded the last driver for Soundblaster Live and solved the problem of Latency.
Some other soundcards i know that work well are, Delta 1010, Digi 001, or Digi 002, Audigy, i have no idea about prices. Other programs could be Motu MachFive, Sonar with plugin (like Livesynthpro (only with soundfont)).

Do someone know any other VSt or DirectX or RTAS or any other kind of Plugin that play samples ?

Thank You...

...does CDXTract convert sound font to KRZ ?

It will convert FROM krz but it will not convert other sample formats into krz format.
