Hi everybody,
I just wanna share with you a small take of my lead sound.
I created It with my Motif ES. It has to be improved a lot off course but your comments will be appreciated.

WOW

I like the low end. With a good PA you will feel that in your stomach

Thanks!
The next step will try to give the sound more shape with the harmonics
@ Coen: any chance to see you here for a weekend? The Dolomites are not so far

Good job man!
I like it.
Now you need a Wah version and some controller feedback choices, like bringing in the octave or a fifth etc.....
Can you tell the good folks which waveforms you used and what effects?

Hey, sounds like Jordan is trying to steal your sound!!!

(just kidding)

I really liked it a lot. That low end is some of the best I've heard in a lead sound. The playing is killer too! Great Work.

"My Lead Sound - like it?"

No. Sorry, but it's (yet another) distorted synth lead, and in my view, distorted synth leads very, very rarely sound any good. If you're willing, I would be interested to hear the same patch without the fuzz, i.e., the same settings but through a clean pre-amp section.

Fantastic playing, though.

I agree with Awake - it sounds good for what it is, but what it is is pretty standard.

If that made sense to anyone, you speak English better than I :P.

I think that the distortion is a little too harsh - there's a lot of top and mid, but not a lot of bottom.

EDIT - That sounded a bit harsh. Don't get me wrong - it is a very cool sound, it's just....'been done before', I suppose.

A wah version would be very cool. Looking forward to hearing what the harmonics do to it!

Put me in the camp that doesn't like distorted leads. I used to be crazy about that stuff but I just prefer a more "synthy" sound these days. I still like Johansson, Sherinian, and Rudess' leads because they are unique to those players, but it seems like any distorted lead these days is just a rehash of one of these 3 guys.

But your lead sound *was* good. Just not what I prefer anymore. ;)

I still like Johansson, Sherinian, and Rudess' leads because they are unique to those players, but it seems like any distorted lead these days is just a rehash of one of these 3 guys.Derek used some lead patches that I thought were okay - his leads on ACoS were fine, but I suppose that was before he discovered the Trinity and the monster lead. On the other hand, I know that, technically, JR's (LTE era) lead uses distortion within the patch, but I do like that lead, and I don't count it as a "distorted' lead sound, in the way that Jens lead and the monster lead are, perhaps because it still sounds unmistakably like a synthesizer.

Synth solos are great, but where sounds are concerned, to me, the Tori Amos maxim holds true: you go too far when pianos try to be guitars. Why would one want a synth lead sound that sounds like a heavily processed guitar?

So for me, the synth solo sounds I like are sounds like the X5's mono lead, KevMo's I&W lead (although not so much the more distorted Awake leads), Matt Guillory's leads on Mullmuzzler, and so on. None of these leads are pristinely clean, but as JR's lead aptly demonstrates, you can use distortion creatively within a patch; it's only when it becomes the equivalent of sticking your synth through an MT2 Metal Zone, it just won't sound good, IMHO.

I really liked it....

i really dont see how Sherinan or Johansson's lead could be confused with a guitar...

just my 2 cents

I second that request. Sounds good btw.

This is a kick ass tone... I'm one of the guys that LIKE doing guitar sounds or distorted synth lead on keys hehehe.... Even JR like your tone dude...!

Props to you & Motif to be able to create something like that...

Thanks for the comment people
Well, concerning the fact of likeing it or not It depends on your personal taste.
Personally I'm more involved with distorted guitar lead sounds in progressive music. I like lead sounds with the combination of natural wave form and guitar sample lead form together. I do not like the "fat sounds" like what Derek uses.

Back to my sound now:
the basic sound is made up of 2 layers: cleanguitar sample and saw sample.
With the Motif you have the cool possibility of having two insertions (LFO) and to decide which oart of the sound effect. Those ins. can then be processed via the "connect" page. Anyway, My insertions for the case are: wah and distorsion.
I'm new with the keyboard so I still have to learn a lot.

@ Jordan: thanks for your feedback and see ya soon!

Put me down for an "I like it" kinda raw kinda mean. I still prefer the lead sound of a classic Mini Moog made with saw waves a la Rick Wakeman but what the hey!

Well, concerning the fact of likeing it or not It depends on your personal taste. If taken literally, wouldn't that render the idea of posting a thread called "my lead sound - like it?" something of a nullity?

It's nice, but If I wanna hear a guitar, I will listen to a guitar. I really don't like sounds coming from a synth that sound way too much like a guitar.

I'm not really a big fan of Jordan's solos when he uses such a sound. I prefer his more classic leads.
