I'm curious to know how Jordan gets the sound he does in this tone that I hear him use quite often. I know all of you who post here have either heard the scenes from a memory live cd, or have brain damage. I will use a song off that album as example. In disc... two track 10 I believe theres a track titled Jordan Rudess Keyboard solo, Here I even uploaded it into my purevolume which I never use under the album name NOT ME NOT ME DONT SUE ME DREAM THEATER and song title "Jordan Rudess owning it up on keys" on a slight side note you can hear my bands demo "be my raven" as well under the album "Sacrifycia"

Ok now this tone comes in near the end (but that really doesnt mean you should skip through it, lol. Anyway, the exact time of this tone's entry is... 5 : 37.

FUCKING LISTEN TO IT!!! if theres a better synth solo out there direct me towards it but FUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCk is that a good tone, my question is how the hell did he do it? what gear?

Thanks in advance!

Could you be, perhaps, less cogent in your formulation of the question? I'm sure that adding a few more expletives - or mangling the grammar in a couple more places - would help clarify the point.

There are people here for whom English is not a first language who do a better job.

Sorry if I wasn't clear *disapointed look of shame* A clarified version of what I said above me in my long rant about live scenes from a memory's solo would be :

At 5 minutes and 37 secondes of the track Jordan Rudess Keyboard solo on the album "Live scenes from a memory" Jordan Rudess uses a tone that I find to be extremly awesome. Can anyone tell me what tone this is? and what keyboard and gear were used to produce it?

The lead is called Liquid T Lead and it's made using Kurzweil's VAST synthesis architecture. There's an article on www.progsounds.com that shows you how to emulate it on different synths, and I think there is a patch available for download for the Nord Modular G2x and a patch for sale in the store for the Korg Triton line. Hope that helped.

Why the fuck are keyboards so fucking complicated? thats my next question. Thats like the most complicated thing ever, but it sounds like you KNOW what your talking about man. Thanks.

Enclosed are some pictures of my modified Roland Rs-50 which is modified with a marker, to be grimmer. I think I was lazy and that no one's really gonna like these photos, oh well I uploaded em anyway

I'm not being the morality police or anything, but could you *please* tone down the use of...the angry word? Sure, everyone's guilty of saying it on occasion, but it's kinda...overdoing it. Some of us don't really want to see FUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCk on their screen.

Lol... You probably did it on purpose, but I noticed you put the exact same number of "C's" as he did. Hehe...

Well this is a useless post.

Why did you write grime in perminant marker? At least do something cool like flames!

I was actually thinking of using a really cheap old keyboard to customise the look. I wouldn't do it on a good expensive synth but I reckon having a old crusty keyboard onstage just with an awesome paintjob would look pretty unique...

But yeah... at least You could have written the word in a cool way instead of a just a scribble. It just looks like some one snuck up when you wern't looking and graffitied your board.

Ladies and Gentlemen, here is our first nomination for worst thread of 2006.

Seconded.

I know it's a nice lead and all that, but why swear so much about it?

BTW - nice job on more than halving the resale price of your board. Well worth it for a cross and four letters in black marker.

I should add that, despite gently mocking the posting style of the thread originator, I do really like JR's LTE / SFaM lead patch, which I take to be the tone in question. The first time I got my hands on a K2500, that was the very first thing I wanted to play with. I think my favorite use of it - and still my favorite JR solo - is Liquid Dreams.

I'm popular!

I was very excited and very stoned yesterday so I got talkative and vulgar in everything I did haha so civilised posts became impossible. I wrote grim like that in a mockery of the bad production quality in all of black metal today. For example:

http://ruthlessreviews.com/pics4/bm/bm1.jpg

haha and its not in magic marker its in crayola on a metal surface, it rubbed right off :P Anyhow, glad to see I got everyone posting! later haha

Also, I'd never sell the good ol Rs-50 it's my first ever keyboard! :O But Korg Triton here I come in march!!!

I wrote grim like that in a mockery of the bad production quality in all of black metal today. For example: http://ruthlessreviews.com/pics4/bm/bm1.jpgIt seems to me that pretentiousness is an entry qualification for metal bands these days. That picture is hilarious, not least because they no doubt feel that they're being daring and unique.

Perhaps this explains the performances of Senators Biden and Schumer this week: they're auditioning for a black metal band!! ;)
