...that I finally be introduced to the world of Hiromi as if by divine intervention. First, my wife gets me all three of her CD's Spiral, Another Mind, and Brain
AND THEN she gets the front page and feature spot of the latest issue of KEYBOARD.

All in all, I'd have to compare her to a female Asian version of Oscar Peterson or Chick Corea, with incredible two fisted technique. One of the best I've heard yet...truly refreshing.

Check out her incredible performance at the Kennedy Center in NY featuring a badass NORD LEAD funk solo and John Petrucci's drummer from his solo album.

Frank might need some geography lessons. The Kennedy Center is in DC (about 2 blocks from the Watergate hotel and about a 2 minute walk from the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington Memorial Bridge). I know because when I was in the army we used to run right by it all the time on "bridge to bridge" runs (start at Ft Myer in VA, run across Memorial bridge, down along the waterfront in DC, up through Georgetown, then back across the Key bridge to Ft Myer, about 6 miles I think altogether).

While you guys are at the KC page, any of you who might be interested in folk/soul acoustic music might want to check out my friend Mr Kuku, who has played there a couple times in recent years. We used to work on music together when I was down there and still collaborate from time to time and plan to work more seriously together in the future.

Heres the link to his stuff at that page:

WOW!! Hang on... let me scrape off my jaw from the floor first...

Thanks for the vids Frank! I've never known her before... she's definitely a monster player... and she looks hot too! :P My dream's always to have a good piano/keyboard player as a wife to jam with :) Is she one of Berklee graduates? Her website's down i think...

And more respect as well for our very own SA's Dave DiCenzo.. that just shows how much more he can do in drums.

BTW, the nord bit is just awesome... that's almost reminds me of Derek's solo spot where he use left hand to do bass rhythm and right hand to another synth to do leads... but she's way more crazier.. i bet Derek would be awed as well if he sees this.. :) In some point i think she's doing a nod to flight of the bumblebee as well.. . just amazing!

Perhaps someone should email it to Derek, it (the playing, not the patch) does seem up his street.

Sorry, my bad on the geography.

Yes, she is a grad of Berklee and extremely beautiful as well.

She also happens to be a big fan of DT and if you read in
the latest issue of KEYBOARD you'll see her pay very big
compliments to JR and company.

Oh, by the way, the link should be working now.

I remember some audio clips of her being posted awhile back...2 forum designs ago. ;)

Definitely a great player. But I keep laughing when I watch the video...I have to just listen to it. She's either reeeeaaaaaalllllyyyyy into it or she's overdramatizing just a bit. Either way it's too funny to take seriously while watching it. Audio only is much more enjoyable. :)

And she should definitely stay on the piano...the synthesizer stuff is just not working....

Agree... I love her piano parts, but when it comes to the synth parts, it's just...

Frank - thanks for forwarding the clip.

BTW - she will be in NYC the week after next at the Blue Note with her trio.

Anyone in the metro-NYC area should seize the rare opportunity to see her live. The Blue Note is a fantastic place to hear live music - small and great acoustics...I'll definitely go down and check her trio out.

Hey Frank, just wondering, but how did you get Spiral? I've been a Hiromi fan for about a year and I thought Spiral didn't come out until January 17.

It's a haiku that's got its 7's and 5's mixed up.

This is a haiku.
It goes five, seven, then five.
Get it right you will.

Can write haiku, just stop at

On a more serious note - man, that's some lovely piano action there. Shame about the usage of the nord though.

Her list of influences, like her music itself, is boundless. "I love Bach, I love Oscar Peterson, I love Franz Liszt, I love Ahmad Jamal," she says. "I also love people like Sly and the Family Stone, Dream Theatre and King Crimson.
