I'm considering picking up an Acoustic Guitar for trips. Much easier to transport than keyboard, even a portable one, and no power supply required. Do any of you own an acoustic guitar for writing or just vacationing ?
I have my eye on a Takamine, but I don't know if they are any good.
Here's the one I'm checking out. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated...

Takamines are nice, but in that price range you could probably get more with an Alvarez. For me, in the acoustic guitar field you basically have Taylor, and you have Alvarez. The Alvarez play and sound pretty much like the Taylors except they are like 1/3 to 1/2 the price or so. But yeah, between about $300 and $600 there are a lot of great Alvarez models. Just kinda tricky finding dealers, but Im sure their website has link to different vendors. Maybe Chuck Levin's has some, not sure though havent been in there in a long time. I am lucky in that the main local guitar store for new stuff always has about 20 Alvarezes in stock. Different body shapes/sizes, acoustic or ac/el, cutaway/noncutaway, various woods, etc...

Just checked online, Levin's IS an Alvarez dealer in fact.
Also, here is a list of some area dealers (I used my old Zip in SS):

I ended up giving GC the business. The holiday sale prices were really good.
I picked up a Yamaha APX-5A (Black).
Plays nice. I discovered that the Takamine I was looking at was a non wood polymer based construction. Basically the resonance sucked. It just wasn't there.
The Yamaha listed at 729.00 and I grabbed it for 499.00 with an SKB hard case and tuner. All said not a bad deal and it's a real wood construction. For the extra 50 dollars, night and day difference in the resonance.

Compared to those 2000-3000.00 Gibsons, Epiphones and higher end Ovations, I got a good deal:)
