It's the second time it's happened, and I know it's going to cost me Ģ35 to repair, seeing as I don't know how to solder or which wires go where.
It wont pitch bend, nor will it vibrato, and the pitch on the keyboard changes instantaneously.
Poo.

Why they can't make it any good?:S

Yup, the same thing happened to my kurz. She is on the service now. I hate this things..

yeah, the joystick on my triton "broke" a while ago (when you bend to the right, it doesn't quite return to the center position)...i had it fixed, and it was...but then within like 2 weeks the problem was back again. the repair shops around me are so slow that i don't really want to take it in again and be without my triton for 4 weeks again (plus it's an hour away)...
so, yeah...F**K those stupid korg joysticks suck...i'm just waiting for my karma one to break...

It's actually kind of odd in my case. When you move it to the right, nothing happens, when you move it up, the note raises by one pitch. Down does the same thing, left does nothing unless you go down first, and when it does something, it raises the pitch by about four semitones. How freakin' odd.

Yeah, Yamaha's aren't much better. That's why I use modwheels instead of joysticks.
I fixed mine shortly after the last time this came up and it has been behaving ever since. I haven't remembered at the right time to post about it.
@speedy fingers II- yours almost sounds like a broken or poorly connected wire (i guess fairly common) or the pots are shot.
Regarding joysticks not centering:
Getting at the Karma joystick is not easy. The disk drive is on the way and in order to get that out the aftertouch PCB needs to be removed. The PCB because of the way it's mounted needs to be flexed to get it out of it's mount. Not for the faint hearted. Also the aftertouch ribbon is very delicate, I can see why others have busted theirs taking it apart. Like I said, not an easy task getting at the joystick.
I fixed mine quite by accident. After getting at the joystick and taking it apart, I didn't really see anything wrong with it, other than that the spring had started to wear into the side of the +/-x housing a bit. I suppose the housing could be made of a little harder plastic to withstand the rubbing it gets from the spring. I would like to make one out of aluminum, not only because it would last forever, but it would look cool as hell. Shit, I could probably sell them. hmmm....
I digress. Not seeing anything wrong I put it (the joystick subassembly) back together. It was marginally better for about 2 minutes, then was just as bad as it was before. I thought I was gonna have to order or make parts, but figured I'd put it back together for now and just deal with it. To reduce wear on the housing I applied a VERY light coat of lithium grease to the housing and the spring coil and...OOPS!!! fixed it!! I guess the spring coils were fretting against each other and causing it to bind.
I didn't think it would be a good idea to write a tutorial on this because of the difficulty of getting to the joystick and also because I could envision someone thinking they could empty a can of WD40 on their joystick to fix it. And I don't know how long the lithium grease treatment will hold up, either. So far, so good. Time will tell......

No problem either on my 13-year old 01/W. But maybe the previous owner never used the joystick... It works perfectly so far.

I have 3 Korg synths that have joysticks, never had a problem with any of them, even the cheaper-built ones on the DW8000 and DSS1. Those older ones are small and "nastsy, waggly" as an SOS review put it. I think the joysticks got better from the M1 onwards, though I'm shocked to hear of these problems cropping up on such newer kit as the Karma and Triton.
Actually I prefer joysticks over the pitchbend/mod combo because of its ease of use: both pitch and LFO mods are available in one 4-way vector-like control. It's really great for all kinds of sound mangling. Although, I do like the traditional Mod wheel (as on the Z1) so you can hold a certain LFO mod in place without a spring-back action that you always get on the joystick.

After the joystick on my triton le got broken for the 4th time, I gave the keyboard back to the store where I bought it, and got all my money back. Korg joysticks suck!

Korg should go back to the old style joystick they had on the old 01/W Pro X, T3 and M1 (probably on other synths too, but those are the ones I specifically used). Those were more sturdy and more expressive. The new ones are harder to use and break very easily.

ive only had my triton 76 le for a few months, so i've yet to experience problems. however, I had my alesis qs 7.1 pitch wheel 3 times. I am inclined to believe it is improper technique/abuse that causes this. especially live, I know people get carried away in being expressive by putting too much force into it. I figured that leaning me entire body into it isn't a good idea, so I am trying to be much more gentle with this joy stick. we shall see

Hehe, I was really careful actually. Many of the buttons was broken too, and a lot of other things. I guess something bad happened during the making of that exact product.

Don't avoid using it, in fact, don't even use it sparingly. Use ut how you want to, and if it get's damaged, get it repaired!
