Im just curious as to how many people have either been influenced by Kansas or are fans of them. Im not asking to measure musical genius or whos better then such and such. I'm just curious, since I live in Kansas and havent met anyone who lives outside the state that either listens to them or has some even vague influence :(

I've been a casual fan of Kansas for a long time. I think the first time a saw them in concert was in 86 or 87. Always a good show.

Im just curious as to how many people have either been influenced by Kansas or are fans of them. It's a large, flat, square state where they grow corn. I'm not sure how much it's influenced me, but I do eat cornflakes, and they say you are what you eat...

I have:
1. Seen them several times
2. Covered "Carry On" and "Dust In the Wind" and "Fight Fire with Fire", but none of those are really their best work in my opinion.
3. Owned a videotape of a concert during the "Non Steve-Walsh Era" when Jon Elefante was singing for them on "Fight Fire with Fire".
4. I would say I've been influenced by Steve Walsh as a Keyboard player, but I haven't really figured out how to do a headstand on my keyboard rig without toppling my stuff over on to the drum riser. :)

I have that video on vhs, it's called Best Of Kansas Live.

I've been into Kansas since they came out.
Don Kirshner really helped push them with his late night rock concert show, man I miss those shows!

Anything off of Leftoverture. Way ahead of their time prog rock band.

I dig em, although I'm not by any means a huge fan. I love everything that I *have* heard, but admittedly I have not heard a large portion of their work. It's just a matter of getting around to it, of course. I surely mean to own more than the -best of- album and the few mp3's lying around in different areas of the old harddrive. ;)

Is that video the one where John is wearing a powder blue jumpsuit and Robby Steinhardt has the Hawaiian shirt ?
I think mine was called Kansas live in Kansas, but maybe it was best of Kansas live...

They've been an absolutely huge influence on me. I still think Dream Theater has more in common with Kansas than Yes and whatnot because Kansas had the heavier vibe, and were more technical in terms of difficult instrmental passages.

Absolutely stellar musicians then and today. Robby Stienhardt is nothing short of amazing in the way he holds those backing vox together and brings fire from that violin. I would think Mark Wood would have to be quite influenced by him and Anna Phoebe definately reminds me of him when she is playing the crap out of her violin. lol

I don't know man... I'd hate to think of music since they were born without them. They are definately right up there with Queen and DT for me.

That sounds about right but you never know, it could be another video.
I remember being bumbed that it had a replacement singer on it but now I'm happy to have it.
This one has all the original members except Steve Walsh.
10th Anniversary concert
Filmed @ Omaha Civic Auditorium July '82
87mins

I also have their dvd which is great. On it Steve plays Kurzweils and sings great but watching you see how the drummer Phil Ehart is Kansas's musical coordinator and how Robby Steinhardt is the MC.

Never did see them live, just video.

So, I take it you're from Great Bend, Kansas? I'm from Ellinwood (currently in Ottawa).

Yo Chris, yep I watched it last night and the singer is wearing blue pants/shirt and Robbie is wearing a shirt that resembles a hawaiian shirt.

Dang, I spent near $300 on music dvds in less than a week. Just slightly addicted to the tunes with vids.

Wow !
I only picked up a handful of DVD's in my travels this year:
Journey Greatest Hits 1978-1997
Journey live in Houston
Foreigner, live at Deer Creek.
The Who live in Boston
Starship featuring Mickey Thomas

Cheers !
