Hi,
Can anyone tell me what's the absolute best place to look for a band in New York? I'm a 24 years old keyboard player, mainly influenced by Jordan Rudess, and I play in a french band called Fairytells.
You can see my stuff there: www.fairytells.com (http://www.fairytells.com)

I suggest you check the Portnoy forums.

Another thing you can do is go to your local instrument-stores and ask if they have some contacts that you can call. It got me into a band that I sticked with for 4 years.

Thanks, but I live in Paris and I don't think they have any contact in New York...
I will check Portnoy's forum though.

I like what he does, but I'm more influenced by Jordan's work.
The angled keyboard thing is just so amazing on stage, I couldn't resist.
Jordan uses the K2600X which is my favourite keyboard without a doubt, but I personally believe that an angled keyboard is better than JR's revolving stand(as cool as it is), because people can see the hands, and therefore their eyes remain on the keyboard player longer than the usual "oh, the keyboard player seems ok..mmm He doesn't move much, ok, let's watch the guitarist..."
And finally the angle helps playing fast! the fingers are more prone to play with this kind of angle. If you watch Jordan's hands closely, you'll see that his very long fingers start underneath the keyboard(the palm is very low), then go up, and come back on the keys. If you don't have Jordan's weird fingers, inclining the keyboard is a natural way of recreating this angle.
Derek is not the only one, I think Stratovarius keyboard player Jens Johansen and Sonata Arctica keyboard player do it.

Your current band seems quite impressive. Nice website too.
Are you looking to leave your band or simply planning to leave Paris and relocate to New York ?

Thank you for your compliment.
I don't plan anything for now, and I like the music I play with my current band.
Moving to New York may just be something I do for feminine reasons in a near future :-) and of course my band wouldn't follow me...
