I know most of the people would prefer not to see me posting anything here, especially Mr. Rudess; but i feel extremely sorry and embarrassed for what i have done, and wanted to make a small explanation even though this explanation will not make me any less guilty at all...

I am a piano student at a classical music conservatory and it is very common for us to download and print pdf files because because there are ten thousands of pieces in classical music repertoire, and most of the time, we are practising a very large repertoire, and some of them are not available at our school library.

I know it is extremely ignorant and impolite of me to say this, especially in this community, but i have only heard the name "Dream Theater" once or twice, and i am not familiar with the genre of musics other than classical and jazz, and as i said, this is my Total Ignorance... So i had no idea this place was an Offical forum, because i do not know any of the names of the band members. I accidentally found this webpage while i was searching the pdf file in google, and i was in such a hurry that i did not even read the general information on the page, and i simply registered. Actually, the page i found was an old archive page of this forum, and people were telling each other where to find certain midi files etc.
But as i said; this explanation does not make me any less guilty...

The reason for this "idiotic" act is a girl...the first time i heard a piece by Dream Theater is the song called "wait for sleep" and my friend has this song in her ipod.. and when i listened to it, i was really very impressed and she told me it was her favourite song.. so being deeply in love with her, i decided i had to find it quickly and play it for her, so that i could impress her. I know it is again stupid of me not to check whether if this book was an official release or not, but when i typed "wait for sleep pdf" in google, the first pages it finds is a pdf sharing community called "pianofiles.com" where i saw the title "keyboard anthology". So until yesterday, i really did not know i could get it as an official product :(

I know all this explanation will not mean much to you, and i deserve all of those words and Mr. Rudess is More than kind not to ban me already, but i just want everyone to know how sincerely sorry and ashamed i am :(

I would like to appologise from Mr. Rudess, the other members of Dream Theater and all the people who worked for transcribing and creating the books and also the Dream Theater Community here. I did not mean to disrespect their hard work and music in any means and i appologise from the bottom of my heart for my ignorance also.

I just found the official page of Dream Theater and it is giving links to purchase the book both as a digital file and also printed version, so i just want you to know i will purchase it today. Also, i just found out that the song "wait for sleep" belongs to an album called "images and words" and the first thing i will do today is to go out and buy the cd, so that i can actually start listening to Dream Theater's music.

I can see where you're coming from - and i think the apology will be accepted by most.

Acting on a romantic impulse meant you didnt stop to think at all where you were and who you are posting to... and that 'Wait For Sleep' is actually something you can easily buy and is not for downloading.
Good luck in learning from the book and impressing this girl - you cant go wrong.
You're also gonna love Images and Words ;)

You seem like a good person dude. Being able to recognize its mistakes and learn from it is a good quality to have. Apologies accepted here.

By the way, welcome aboard!

You will love what Jordan is doing if you like Classical and Jazz, and of course progressive music! There is a lot of material if you are serious about becoming a better keyboard player. The online conservatory, the keyboard madness and keyboard wizardry DVDs, the keyboard anthology book, etc. Just have a look at the shop and you will see how generous Jordan his to his fellow musicians.

Dude, with that explanation, I understand completely. I'm just glad we all learned a lesson from this because maybe there were some responses *Ahem* that were inappropriate but you still posted an apology anyway - that says a lot about a person. Thanks for that, and welcome to the forum :)

I'd like to apologise to YOU - I went off the handle a bit too far - I dislike piracy of hard-working people's work in the first place, and you (to use the stereotypical excuse, unfortunately) 'caught me at a bad time'.

Sorry, dude. Welcome to the forums :)

It takes a lot of character to admit guilt and apologize in that manner. Kudos to you.

I would also like to say, after reading your explanation, that it was an honest mistake. I think we've all learned a little something from this experience. You seem like a nice and honest guy. Anyways, welcome to this wonderful world we have here:)

Sorry Thor, I'd like to apolize too, since I've been a little bit rude, jumping too fast to conclusions.. Thanks for the explanation, it was the best choice to do, and I fully understand your situation.
Anyway, welcome to the forum!
Bye

Thank you everyone, for replying.. honestly speaking i wasn't even expecting any replies at all... especially from Mr. Rudess himself now, i feel even more ashamed of myself.

I consider myself a musician "candidate" now that i am still a student.. and if i do not respect the hard work of another musician/musicians.. then who will?

To my friends here who appologised from me; thank you very much.. you do not really need to appologise, sometimes words are only used for expressing anger, and you have all the right to be angry for what i have done..

Ok, now.. i have bought 2 cds: "Images and Words", and "Live at Budokan"
I guess all of you ALREADY KNOW the things i will say, but this is probably the BEST "non classical" music i have ever heard of... Honestly speaking, i feel like the "Alice" in "Alice in Wonderland" The rhytmic progressions and a VERY strong counterpoint. I am thrilled :) I am pretty sure Dream Theater members Love BACH :)
I am wondering.. are all the members of the band coming from classical backgrounds, like Mr. Rudess?
Also, After listening to "Live at Budokan" i understood why the word "wizard" stands under Mr. Rudess's nickname :)

Which album order would you reccommend me to listen to Dream Theater's music? shall i just go with the chronological order? :) I guess i will be buying all of them including the DVDs as soon as i have the money! :)

Thanks again everyone for letting me inside this wonderful community.

You have to check out Scenes from a Memory and 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence.

They're my personal favorites.

I think John Petrucci had a classical guitar background, or maybe jazz, I can't remember.

Well, Petrucci graduated from Berklee if I'm not mistaken, and one of the biggest strong points of Berklee is jazz. So I'm guessing he had a big influence from jazz.

Heh, everyone who likes Star Wars should be forgiven. I'm quite a fan myself too
Oh yeh, you should get every album, because they're so unique and different. You'll love 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence. It's very synth-oriented and it has cool piano solos by our Maestro JR. And the title track is only 42 minutes. They should've made it longer lol.

Once you've digested DT's work move to Liquid Tension Experiment (JR's side project, no vocals) and JR's solo stuff.

And Live At Budokan is nothing until you've seen it on DVD. Awesome production and JR is smiling all the time  Not to mention the cool video show in the background.

And BTW: you're prolly better at theory than me, so could you explain counterpoint and give a few examples in DT songs. Thanks

I thought that LTE was formed because Pettrucci and Portnoy wanted to play with Rudess like they would in DT, but couldn't because Sherinian (?) was already filling the keyboard spot?

That's weird...:S
I read wikipedia Dream theater Biography and It says that actually Portnoy was asked by Magna carta to maje a super group so he invited Rudess,Levin and of course Petrucci..But don't know if that's true

If you read the LTE booklet you find that it's true  He asked Rudess because he wanted to play with him (and since he couldn't play with him in DT at the time, it had to be outside  )

Portnoy had difficulties finding a guitar player that was available, until the day Marlene pointed out that he hed a GREAT guitar player playing on his left side on every single DT concert... Hehe.

Really? All this time I had no clue. I thought that MP didn't want to have anything to do with Magna Carta or was that about the Liquid Drum-thingy?
