View Full Version : Control Winamp with your Keyboard!

A friend of mine send me a song on which he wanted me to add the keyboard track. So I started listening to the song, rewind it, listen, rewind, try something on my keyboard, rewind, ... It was kind of hard to concentrate on finding inspiration since I was always going back and forth between my two keyboards (computer one and musical one).

So last weekend I decided it was enough and that each time I want to practice a song or part of a song that I can listen to through Winamp, I won't have to leave my favorite keyboard. So I created a general plugin for Winamp that lets me configure which key on my keyboard is assigned to which Winamp command and how to activate the plugin from my keyboard so that it doesn't always rewind the song when I play the note that is supposed to do it.

For now, the most common commands are supported : play, pause, stop, rewind 5 seconds, forward 5 seconds, next song, previous song, volume up, volume down, ... I think thats it. The problem is that I don't have anywhere to host the file to share it to anybody who could find it useful.

If anybody is interested in hosting my plugin or simply wants me to send it to him by mail, make yourself heard!

I was the first tester of it, and I can say that it's great! Everyone who uses Winamp with a keyboard must have this plugin. It's very simple to use and it works great!

Here it is. I would appreciate if other people hosted it as well. I have no idea what the limits for that account is so... if it dies, don't kill me :p I think it'll be fine though.

Do whatever you want with the file people! As long as you don't sell it!

I'm hoping to hear some feedback from people who use it.

By the way thx to Calmar for testing.

If hostventura hasn't uploaded it in a couple of days, I can upload it on my JR server. I'll definately try out this plugin, too!

OK, it's hosted!

My site is hosted at my house, on my home connection, so you'll never get much more than about 10KB/s.

Let me know if you have any problems downloading!

I added it to my site, if that's ok. I know a few other people have it too, but I want more on my site, so I added it anyway ;)

Thanks for the good comment Antonio.

Any comments from other people? I am sure some of you used it. Do you like it? Doest it sucks? What would be nice to add? Some features like the "one key that steps directly to one part of a song"? For example lets say I am practicing the part from 1:35 to 1:50 continuously, woudln't it be nice to be able to have only one note to hit to go back to 1:35 every time? Hehe I just thought about this feature and I am gonna implement it tonight, because tomorrow night IS DA NIGHT!
