I put a bit of effort this afternoon to make a 'Happy Birthday' song in 7/8 as Mr.Rudess asked...

There you have it Jordan. Now it's official, happy birthday from Thiago. ;)

Hope you like it.

Great job, man!

I like it so much that i'll sing it this way at every party i go...

I'll arrive first to the end, but it's worth it, in order to free ourselves from "rock slop/post-pop/hip-hop/trance/bop" syndrome, as the Prophet says (Total Keyboard Wizardry, page 13, line 2).

Congratulations, again!

Alex

Wow! This was really, really cool! I'll demand that this one is played REALLY LOUD at least 10 times during my birthday the 16... ;-) (If that's O.K with you, of course!)

Keep on proggin'

Woah! A Sticky, thanks Dani. Jordan might actually get his present now! ;)

Thanks for all the kind feedback! Use the mp3 all you want on your birthdays. I didn't think people'd like it so much. I'm really happy with the response on the 3 forums.

I actually think the standard birthday song is boring... It really annoys me when people sing it in my birthday. That being said, I had alot of fun redoing it in 7/8.

:D

Use the mp3 all you want on your birthdays.Thank you! I do also think that the original Happy Birthday is a little.. old.. But now I can enjoy my birthdays from now on in a proggy way ;-)
That'll make a bunch of Happy Birthday singers confused.

What equipment and software did you use to record the song? Very good. There are some wonderfully, beautiful harmonies happening in there! :D

;)

I recorded in my home PC. Athlon 2600+, 1gb ram, M-Audio Audiophile 2496.

The only instrument I played was guitar. The rest (Bass, Keys, Drums) I did midi programming in Sonar and used a couple of VSTs. I only wish I had a real keyboard to play with. Programming will only get you so far before you're pissed already. For this song it was OK though. I didn't take more than 2h to complete the whole project.

VSTs used: Steinberg GrooveAgent, Steinberg Hypersonic.

I remember a review of a RMP show where Jordan and Rod played the song because it was someone's birthday in the audience. They played it in an alternate measure as well - was it 9/8 or 7/8?

It's awesome you got a chance to hear it Jordan. I'm real happy! :) :) :)

I too wanna hear these 'variations' from other players in the forum.

About the wailing synth... I'll leave that to you keyboardists... No fun in a Left Mouse Button Wailing Click.

Yeah it really kick ass!

I was supposed to create a birthday song for Jordan too (as promised in his birthday thread) but was just overwhelmed this weekend by the new plugin I created for Winamp. I started finding ideas on the happy birthday theme last friday night with a piano sound and had came up with something, but Its nothing close to this great 7/8 birthday song!!! Ah well, I may still come up with my version sometimes this week, just for the fun of it!!!

Again, great work!

Edit : gonna try to give this 4/4 time sig a correction :)
