hi, i'm considering to buy a new amp for my keys. I need something good for small locals to play live, to play with a band and to use at home.

what advice will you give??
which amp have you got??

THANKS, SAM

Barbetta looks to be the bad ass in keyboard amps, still never heard one but from what I've read they're da bomb.

Those Carvins look really nice, how do they sound?

Roland amps are good too.

Peavey are not very good, at least the KBA100

My solution would be to not get a keyboard amp at all, get a power amp (and mixer if you need it) and a couple of small PA cabs. A powered speaker such as a Mackie SRM350 would be a very nice and portable solution too :)

I have liked what I've heard from the Roland amps though... Laney used to make some nice keyboard amps, I used to have one years ago... dunno if they still do. They were cheap too! Peavey I've never been impressed with for anything except speaker cabs (the 15" Black Widow bass speaker has a lovely growl to it, and their bass cabs in general are pretty much indestructible.. I know, I tried! :))

Harkte (The bass amp makers) have now got a keyboard amp model now and is apparently really good.

I'd go with powered speakers. I currently have one Mackie SRM450 and as soon as I can afford it, I'll get the other. If you need more than that, you'll be patching into someone else's PA system. If your playing a smaller venue and the unlikely happens and one goes bad, you still have the other one. If you want to run other things thru your speakers, no problem you have a small PA system. I did a small Jazz gig once where we ran the upright bass player & myself thru the one Mackie SRM450 that I have and the trumpet player played unmiked. It sounded just fine.

Amps? They mess up the sound! Get studio monitors! And then I'm not talking about screens, I bet you would mix those up, sam. 8) :P

yeah, i think powered studio monitors are best for at home use...and for live stuff, just go into a PA system. I have a Peavey KB/A 300...i hate it...the tone is awful...it ruins every patch on my triton. and I have tried other amps, including the revered roland ones...they still suck ass. keyboard amps just blow.
