its natural i think to relax the hands when playing music as hard as dts. john petrucci said on rock discipline that he massages his hands in gigs when hes not playing

yeah i think Jordan has talked about in interviews that he likes to keep his hand/finger muscles very relaxed during shows and that he uses that shaking technique a lot to just get the blood flowing and what not so his hands are as limber and ready to play as possible
