Hi,

This question is for Frank 'cause I now that he is the only (in my knowledge) that has both synths.

How is the weighted key action in Yamaha Motif ES8?
Is it similar to the K2600X(S)'s?

Just curiosity. I own a k2600xs and I'm very happy with it. I've been studying piano for 6 years and even there's a little bit of difference it's very-very acceptable.

And what about the expansion boards? Is there something in Yamaha similar to the orchestal ROM in Kurzweil or the default orchestal patches are better than the K2600's ones?

Just curiosity...

Thanks!!

Arkaitz.

It's actually very good.. Yamaha has always made solid equipment. it's a bit heavy, but very realistic to a piano. I can't say much for the pianos though.. They're good except for the high notes which sound fake.. Although I'm comparing it to my 2600, so..

I found out that there's a difference in the key action between a piano and a grand piano (my english... piano means the high and short ones, and grand piano means the big ones where the strings are horizontally...?).

I own a Roland A90 and a Kurzweil K2500X - in my opinion the A90 key action is more like a piano (you have to push the keys deeper), as the Kurzweil is more like a grand piano. I like the Kurzweil more, it's easier to play... just can't compare to yamaha, sorry

I love the action on my ES8. To me it's easily the best
action on a synth right now. Not too easy to play and
has a nice rebound.

Yamaha has by far the most realistic piano action of any synthesizer. Close your eyes and you're in front of a baby grand. It's just that good. :)

Kurzweil's Fatar action is evenly weighted across the board (more springly, less subtle) and gives you the flexibility to play piano, organ, and synth stuff without strain, but feels less 'realistic'.

I agree with the comments about the ES8's action. I have an S90 (the two 'boards have the same action) and it feels great.
