We're playing the following 2 weeks as well and I guess that they're trying to have a sort of jazz night there every Wednesday. It's weird that Peter Piper would do that, but I'm certainly not going to complain if there's weekly jazz anywhere around here.

Now the trick is for them to find enough good groups, because if they start recruiting school jazz bands from the other high schools or junior highs, it's going to die off real quick. I'm lucky to be at the HS I'm at because it's the only one in this city with a decent jazz program. I know that one of the junior high groups is supposed to open for us this week and I'm not looking forward to it. I give the kids a lot of credit for their effort...it's not like they aren't trying. But that's stuff that should be in the school auditorium with family and friends coming to see. If you're going to be playing outside of that, then it needs to be as close to professional level playing as you can get.

It could be a really, really cool thing if they get the right stuff coming through there, but if they don't then it's going to be a disaster. People don't go to Peter Piper for live music, so if it's gonna be there, it needs to be good. Otherwise it's just an unwanted nuissance that's ruining everybody's time there. Unhappy customers = unhappy store management = no more jazz nights.

The good news is that this opens the door for a few of us who have wanted to start doing combo work...out in the world, aside from jams at school. There's not really any live jazz in this city at all, so I'm ready to jump on this like a 14-year-old CounterStrike nerd onto a supermodel who magically showed up on his bed. ;)
