First off I'm the new guy here, and kinda outta place at the moment. Been playing guitar 30 years. Been listening to Prog since Yes and Genesis, later Rush, Fates Warning, Dream Theater. Past few years been working on lets say: a Concept CD, 1 Long song with sub titles. I have decided after not being able to find a keyboard player, to add the synth stuff myself <---crazy.
I have messes with PC based cheap midi controller keyboards before. I also am a certified computer geek so programing a synth is ok by me.
BTW: I have digital recorders, pc based recording, tons of crazy guitar rack midi stuff, so I think I can handle it.
I also read the READ ME FIRST posts, there is wayyyyyy toooo much in there to decide what I may want.
Now that being said, what I really want is to add synth stuff to my mega long song with the different parts, as well as break into keyboards.
Being and big fan of FW and DT I love the keyboard, synth stuff by both bands.
My question is, What kind of synth stuff is FW using on A Pleasant Shade Of Gray, and Disconnected.
And, What is the best way for me to break into this keyboad stuff. I seem to like the Modules and Midi controller keyboard stuff so I can use it to record at home on the PC or Digital Recorder, and use it for live shows as well.
If there is any other way of doing this please let me know. Whats most important is sound quality, but I'm not looking to spend 5 grand either.

Thanks
Larry

I'm not thinking of myself now, but there are many great keyboard players around here. What do you think about searching for a keyboardist here who works with you via Internet?

Ask Frank Lucas (Over the Edge) or AlbertoRizzoSchettino (AlbertoRS)...

They are keyboard professionals and you wouldn't have to learn keys only because you didn't find a keyboarder for your song!

Hey thanks for the replys. Only thing is I would really have to have my final perfect recordings, with vocals drums and all before I can add the keyboards. At least the guitar and vocal parts so who ever did the keyboards can here the complete song structure. At this time I only have a demo version of the songs. One of the songs has to be recorded again, the arrangement is off a little.
What I can do is record the instrumentals again. and upload them to my site. If you guys know anybody who might be interested that would be cool.
I have the lyrics posted at my site to this project.

BTW: you guys know what Fates Warning used on Disconnected and APSOG?

Kevin Moore played on those two, maybe someone can help you in the Chroma Key forums (www.chromakey.com)

sent e-mails and have updated your arrangement. Agreed - The timing is a touch off in some spots as is apparent in the file. I've set it up so that if you come up with an identical version that is sync'd to the midi clock, it's ready to be swapped :)

Hey buddy thanks a lot for all the input. I already started re-recording the songs with my DB-12 Dr. Beat as well as on board metronomes. As I finish the guitar tracks I'll sent them to ya, and let you know exactly what the temp beat is for each song.

BTW: the imperfections on the timming make it sound human

If I'm correct Kevin Moore played the Piano parts not the Synth parts on the Fates Warning stuff. I just don't know what they used.

Wasnt KM playing Korgs in those years could be an O1W, Georges would really know that answer to that one.

BTW welcome to the forum you'll love it here even though your not a keyboardist.

Kev mainly used a Korg DW8000 and a Roland JD-800.
A Korg DSS-1 sampler was later added to his live setup.

Hey thanks for the welcome wagon. Little by little I'm breaking into the keyboard world.

I gotta nother crazy question.
I have a Tascam Pocket Studio 5 Recorder with a Internal General Midi Synth Module, and a midi in i/o port. How do I get a Midi Controller keyborad to work with this. All I can get it to do is play a standard piano sound. I cant change the paramaters to say organ or synth.

I finally found the best way to get MIDI Keyboard to my recorder without so much trouble. I connect the Keyboard Controller to the MIDI IN on my PC, then record the parts I want to MIDI, or just play live and send the pc out to the recorder directly

Is there another possibility to do it anyway?
