i'm quite new to the world of synths and have only recently bought a korg karma to try out the capabilities of a synth. i used to use regular midi controllers that were able to split the keyboard into sections so that i could select different voices for each section. i'm sure this is possible on the korg, but i just can't figure it out. :P anyone? thanks much.

This is done in combi mode. Select a combination, hit Menu. Look at the KeyZone sub-menu (I believe that's what it's called). It's pretty self explanatory.

thanks, sorry i'm a bit new to this :D is there a way to save my settings so that when i use them in live proformances i woudln't have to set it all up right before i play? also, once i change the key zones and load the combi into my songs, they stay intact (with my settings)? thanks again

Hi,
yes you can save programs, combi's and sequences (those 3 are the basic types of sounds/soundsets you work with on a Karma). Saving a program or combi writes it in the internal memory on a by you specified place. So you can overwrite the factory sounds or just add you settings to the factorysounds. The easiest way to save is to press the rec/write button in program or combi mode. This opens the "write" dialog.
The other way is via the arrowmenu in the top right of the screen (at least...that is how it is on a triton, but since the karma has no touchscreen i'm not 100% sure, so better use the rec/write button).
You can use "copy to combi" (a command available in seq mode) to copy all your settings and sounds from 1 combi to a sequence. This sequence is NOT being saved in the internal memory, so when the power is down, the songs are lost. You need to save them to a disk in the "disk" menu....
I hope this is enough info to answer the question. It's a bit tricky to make sure that the sounds and songs you need are available when you go on stage...but just experiment it. You'll know very soon how to save and recall everything.

Rutger
