As some of you guys know, I've been living in Connecticut for some time now, but I've been considering moving to a suburb near Chicago (Mount Prospect), which is about 20-30 minutes away from the city via train.

For those you of you guys on the forum who live in the Chicago area, what is the job climate like in the area? (most of my job experience is in computer-related helpdesk, with light IT in the field of Network Engineering.) How are the music venues? How open/diverse are they? How 'safe' is the mass transit system to use compared to, for example, NYC's?

Any comments would be appreciated.

I go to Chicago on business freqently. Great city! Great place for blues gigs. Like all cities there are plenty of clubs for all types of music.

The lake is real nice. Winters suck beyond belief - if you thought NY was cold in winter, you've seen nothing.

Mass transit is excellent and appears safe. When I fly in, I usually take the subway to and from the airport to the downtown area. Driving sucks - traffic is about as bad as CT and LI - which is pretty bad!
