I've been meaning to transcribe this song for ages, and there's absolutely nothing on the net at the moment.

It's a song by Spastic Ink called A Chaotic Realization of Nothing Yet Misunderstood. Totally insane. It's about 12 minutes long, guitar, bass, drums, and synth. I'm going to attempt it myself if no-one else wants to, but if anyone feels like they want a crack at a part of it as well, it would be cool.

Here it is on rapidshare - http://rapidshare.de/files/4623295/08_-_spastic_ink-a_chaotic_realization_of_nothing_yet_misunderstood-amrc.mp3.html

Usual business with Rapidshare. Go down to the bottom and click free. Then wait for the next page to load. At the bottom of that there should be a timer. When that runs down, a link will appear and you can download it or whatever.

Please do take a listen. This track is insane.

Sometimes you come across bands who strive to make the most intricate and challenging music possible, and they succeed in creating both something that appeals to the intellect and also functions as emotive, expressive music. Then you get stuff like this with a bunch of fancy numbers behind the music...and that's it. 14 year old kids can understand and utilize odd time signatures. It's another thing to do something interesting with them and make it sound musical instead of "weird just because" and a bunch of copy/paste songwriting with some random stop/go/stop/go riffs.

Where is this song supposed to be headed? Am I missing something deeper in this, or am I correct in saying that there are no unifying themes within the song and it's just a collection of semi-difficult riffs with unorthodox timing?

I've heard some Spastic Ink stuff before that was really interesting, but this song is prog rock at its worst. Complexity for the hell of it, and not a single noticable purpose to the song.

My opinion of course. Feel free to point out anything significant that I missed in the song.

I see entirely what you mean Liquid Shadow, except that this song really resonates with me. As a whole the music flows beautifully; i love listening to it progress. But you're right in the song not having very interesting subject material - it's about acronyms (if you take the first letter of every word in the title, you get the acronym, ACRONYM), pretty dull. But saying that, the whole album Ink Compatible is about computers, so it's difficult to find good subject matter. However, in terms of musical themes, there are tons (at least that i can hear anyway). I find there's lots for the listener to cling to in terms of "stuff that can be listened to", which i like too. Plus i just really enjoy Jarzombek's writing style.

It may not be purposeful, but i love it. It's great music, IMO anyway.
