Speak to me is on the new double DVD that contians Live in Toyko and 5 Years in a Livetime. They play Speak to Me in an "unplugged" style. Its a beautiful song, but what's the story behind it. Is it even Dream Theater's song? Is there a studio recording?

its one of the tracks that was taken off from the original falling into infinity.

i believe it is one of their tracks, and theres a probably a demo of the studio recording somewhere, i cant remember if its been released or going to be released on ystejam records (the official bootleg cds of dt)

i havent watched the dvds in a while, but that sounds very familiar, and i think i remember them commenting on it. flip on the commentary on that song and i'm sure youll get some info on it.

Thanks for the replies.

I tried the commentary before I asked here...it was all about how they would switch instruments and play covers (like Perfect Strangers), then they had a huge discussion about how the show that was being shown was on the night after the huge "talk" about how Dream Theater has lost control and Portnoy wanted out.

Hi! I'm watching the dvd in these days..and i fell in love with the song...I think it's simply beautiful, very "clean" maby for the use of the acoustic guitar. One of my favs...

Speak to me was released on a special 3" CD single that was included on the Japanese release of FII

That is how it became well known by DT fans in advance of the Fan Club CDs etc

Sure! I also though that when I listened "I walk beside you" for the first time. Although I also though "Speak to me" sounded like U2 (which ain't a problem for me).

Thats right Everlasting_Rain ... and I guess we all agree that Speak to me is way better song in every aspect, not that I dont like IWBY but just love speak to me`s vocals and lyrics as well as myungs contribution.

Right, of course I have it tucked up in the collection

The Japanese version is studio

Despite being Japan only, on some of the bootlegs of the FII tour, it is evident that the fans knew the song and cheered when it was played

hmm...although similar in some aspects, i think Speak to Me and I Walk Beside You have totally different vibes...i guess i say that because i would want to listen to those songs for totally different moods, and that, to me, has a lot to do with how i group songs together

just my take...they're both awesome, though!

Fantastic song - great guitar solo, wonderful keyboards. It does sound very, very, very like U2 (I think the Edge would pat JP on the back for that solo and say "attaboy"), but as others have pointed out, that's not a bad thing.
