Any fans of the album? I kind of like the little keyboard solos. At least I can play them, unlike other keyboard solos I know.. *shakes fist at Jordan Rudess*

I only have the album Wired, so I was wondering which other album/songs had nice music and keyboard solos.

Thanks

This is just one of those classic fusion albums. There is just a great sense of melody and groove throughout the whole thing, combined with a really cool sound, courtesy mostly of Beck and Hammer's respective styles, as well as Walden's drumming. The version of Goodbye Porkpie Hat is pretty much the definitive version.

If you are looking for other albums in this vein, you should check out anything from the 70s with Hammer on it (esp the Mahavishnu Orchestra stuff), anything with Walden (esp the MO stuff), and maybe some George Duke (with Zappa, others, or solo).

Another classic is the Jeff Beck album that preceeded Wired - Blow by Blow. The tune "Cause We've Ended As Lovers" is a haunting masterpiece.

Most of Beck's catalog is great. He keeps his style current by adopting elements of newer music into his sound. Recent releases have a hard-edge dance or hip-hop feel. But Beck's lyrical melodic solos are always present. It's always a pleasure to listen to Beck's work!

By the way, his influence on Derek Sherinian's solo work is very strong. Derek has covered some of Beck's stuff and some of Derek's and Steve Steven's original compositions come straight from Beck. In fact, Jeff Beck's tunes are prominant in the LA music scene and are frequently used in jam sessions by guys like Virgil Donati, Billy Sheehan, Tony MacAlpine, Steve Weingart, Simon Phillips, and others.
