Woa! I heard JR say on the Live Scenes Commentary that he got his electric sitar sound for home from a spectrasonics cd. so, being intrigued, i looked up their website and listend to some of the stuff they have there. Woa! i repeat. They have a great selection for choral sounds (http://www.spectrasonics.net/symphonyvoices.html). i listened to them and it blew me away. but on the page it says Akai/Emu, Roland. Does that mean that it only can be used by those keyboards? or could i use these awesome sounds from, oh, lets say a Korg Triton Extreme? If they're limited to just those two/three, then thats a shame cuz they are the best sounds ive heard ever come from a keyboard :)

Triton Extremes can read Akai format, so you're in luck :)

Even if it couldn't I think there is software out there that can convert different sample formats back and forth. For example the new Fantom-X has support for translator software that can transform Akai or Roland-format samples into regular WAV/AIFF files. This software might be available as a standalone download on Roland's web site in a few months.

Hey look I just found this: http://www.chickensys.com/translator/ 8)

Also, I *believe* that Akai format is just a plain WAV file that has an accompanying data file (.akp?), so if it says Akai then there might be plain files on the disk. I say this because I saw a bunch of samples the other day (http://www.hollowsun.com/donations/) that were supposedly all Akai format but they were actually plain WAV files (obviously with no looping or start/end point information encoded in them however). DISCLAIMER I don't really know what I'm talking about so don't go buy an Akai sample CD on the basis of this paragraph alone :)

Of course you can use these through a "soft" sampler like Halion too if you have one. I have quite a few of these disks, very good sounds.

Spectrasonics = 8)

I'd have to agree 100% on the choir sounds.
