One of the great improvisors of our generation is very sick. Mike Brecker has a rare blood cancer that requires a bone marrow transplant for his survival. His family is looking for potential donors, particularly those of similar Eastern European Jewish ancestry.

Michael Brecker, if you are not familiar with him, is one of the great geniuses of modern jazz. His use of advanced improvised melodic line is brilliant. One of the more intellectual players in music, Michael's improvisations feature elements of 12 tone row, chromaticism, and extended harmonic structures. He is perhaps the greatest of the Coltrane disciples and has been an enormous influence on several musicians. I know he's perhaps my biggest influence when it comes to improvisation. Take some time to transcribe just a few measures of one of his solos and you'll quickly begin to appreciate his brilliance.
Spread the word in hopes that perhaps Michael's family will find a suitable donor so that this great talent can continue to share his immense talents with us all.
