Since he obviously knows what good music is and is not, pmarafio will examine the following songs from crappy Gigantour bands (aka bands who are not Dream Theater). He will analyze the music itself, as well as the lyrical content, and also how the two may or may not be related and may or may not make the other more effective through this relationship. The purpose of this thread is so that he can use his expertise in musical understanding to analyze these songs and show us just how simple minded and silly they are, and why Dream Theater are so much better. The following bands are angsty high school material, and pmarafio will show us why.
Analysis will include:
Nevermore - Sentient #6, Final Product, and This Godless Endeavor
Megadeth - Peace Sells, Holy Wars, and Trust
Symphony X - The Accolade II, Inferno, and Communion and the Oracle
After analyzing these songs from these bands, pmarafio will adequately explain why they are mindless crap and why a tour including all of this crap is such a waste of money when you can see these bands, Dream Theater, and a few others all for under 50 bucks. Should he choose to not respond with adequate analysis, pmarafio admits no knowledge of the music these bands create and that he has no objective reasoning to back up his claims in his Gigantour thread.
This should be interesting. Enjoy.
I guess you never considered he may just not like them...
Some people just cant express themselves properly and feel the need to insult people/bands and make outrageous claims because they are close minded.
Sometimes its best just to move on with your life and ignore them like everybody else. Especially when you yourself are guilty of doing the same exact thing.
10 bucks says we never hear from the guy again...

Another thread to be locked I guess.....
This is really stupid, Pat has been a member of the board for a while, a thread like this is pointless. He didn't bash symphony X first of all so take that off the list, we missed them at the show because they started before 5 in anycase, this is really pointless...what just because he didn't like the bands other than Dream Theater he doesn't have a valid musical opinion or can't express his feelings ? This is pointless.

This is not interesting. It sucks. There was already a thread to discuss what he said. This is pointless.
Why can't you just do like anybody LS and just discuss that in the original thread? I don't see what you try to prove, beside that you are still a kid, by starting your own thread to discuss that. You think your opinion is stronger than the ones who already posted in the other thread? You think its worth trying to start a rebellion again a guy who honestly expressed his opinion? You think it's worth trying to make a fool of this guy, which obviously doesn't work? I don't think so... Think twice before posting crap.

I'm not going away, I'll take that 10 bucks, thank you!
A few corrections, I knew the tour had a lot of metal bands, bands I was not familiar with. I was looking forward to seeing Symphony X, having bought Pinella's disc months ago and enjoyed it. Unfortunatley, the promoter messed up the schedule and had Symphony X start before the advertised showtime.
If I were truly "close-minded" then I would have completely avoided the tour. Since I never heard these bands, I hoped that maybe I might hear something new that I'd like. Since Dream Theater was on the bill with them, and I like their music and respect their opinion, I assumed that they would likely tour with similar bands.
I go to a Dream Theater concert everytime they are in the NY area. I've seen some great bands on the bill with them - KingsX, Yes, Queensryche, Joe Satriani. In some cases I was already familiar with their music, in other cases, I developed an appreciation for a new band. It didn't work out this time for me, and I overreacted to some degree.
As for leaving early, I work a fulltime job, plus I do about 10-12 gigs a month with muiltiple bands so I need to continually practice several sets of music. I don't have a whole lot of spare time. With a pile of work waiting for me at home, I decided to cut my losses and head home. After taking five minutes to vent my frustrations on this board, I went back to work.
This board has several people expressing their opinions. We all have different musical backgrounds and experiences and different opinions. In retrospect, perhaps I should have better restrained my frustration. However, the purpose of the thread was to question how Dream Theater selects their their tour mates since I could not understand their musical connection to the acts I saw that night.
