hi,

I want a Holdsworth like legato lead tone with distortion and smooth sounding to make those notes sound together.

Wow - I want a sony stereo system for a vehicle, so I can play rap bass, which system would work in my car??

You OBIOUSLY can't answer that question as there's an important peice of logical information missing: WHAT CAR DO I HAVE?

Well, you have a bunch of tones on your guitar, but until you tell us what guitar you play, we can't point you in the right direction!!

Oh wait - You mean you wanted a distorted lead tone for a KEYBOARD!!

Dude - If you want help making a sound, programming, etc.. You have to give logical information that's pertinent to the subject - What keyboard are you using?

Answer this and we may be able to help you better :)

How about some soundprogramming, dude? It's fun!

I have the M1 rack. If you give me Audio Samples of the tones you want, i could help you!

KH,

This is my own personal taste but I find the best expressive lead tone which does sound a little like Alan Holdsworths tone is an analog lead patch which is monophonic/legato and put through some amp distortion, a little stereo delay and a bit of spring reverb and then its all down to your hands. I don't think that guitar samples sound that great for lead work, I'm not a fan of Jordan's or Derek Sherinian's tone (although I think DS is now using a Nord Lead 3 for his lead work).

On the M1, just try and find a smooth sounding analog patch (not a minimoog patch though) and make sure its monphonic and put it through the above mentioned FX.

I did a little Jazz groove demo to demonstrate my lead tone.

Hope you like...
I liked.
Could you plz share that beautiful chord progression with me?

Hey man...
I'm still a beginner, after 3-4 years of piano lessons, a year of pause (DAMN, IF ONLY I GOT ON PLAYING I'LL BE BETTER NOW :E) and this year of synth learning...you see, I'm not very prepared so I need some advice...
How did you do the jam? What software/hardware did you use? How did you program drums (and bass) (I was never able to :E)?What was the chord progression and scales?
Thanks a lot for the answers.
Deceit.

RW,

The progresssion starts on Bb,Ab,Gb, then goes up to Eb,Db. The chords are Minor 7th Inversions where I play the 7th note first which gives a nice jazzy sound, e.g On the first chord ( Bb ), I play the A first, then Bb,D,F,G#, so its a five note chord, I play the first 3 notes with my left hand and the other two with my right. The best thing I could do is post the midi file of it and then you can see all the notes via piano roll of your sequencer. Let me know if you want te midi file...

Thanks for your comments by the way....

Deceit,

I am a bit embarassed to say what I used thinking of all you guys on this forum who have massive hardware setups, I used Propellerhead Reason 2.5 for the whole thing, I just used a Drum Loop which was funky and then I played the bass live with my keyboard and then I put the piano progression down and then jammed over it. I know Reason has been labelled a Dance orientated thing but for me its a revolution and can do what I need with it. I've spend literally 10's of thousand on gear and I am still only 33 (only he says  ). The tune was in F minor and does'nt really change keys so its diatonic, So I basically played F minor, F Phrigian, F Minor Blues, Chromatics, you can also play in C minor over this too. The hardware is just a custom made PC I put together, Edirol PCR80 which I've just bought, Reason 2.5 and my M-Audio Duo / BX5 monitors, Thats it...

If you want your lead to cut more, put a compressor in front of your distortion with a minimum attack and release time, maxed out compression ratio and output level, and a very low threshold (like -48 dB). The compressor will give your sound a very percussive attack, while the distortion will smooth it out but still give you that initial bite.

Also, try boosting the resonance some, using some slight high pass filtering, and running the waveforms through some kind of gain algorithm.

I am in a hurry of joinging a metal band and the band has no progy or fuison influences just pure metal ok.

I do not have time to create lead patches because i simply suck creating tones and i just dont have time.

Can somebody please just send me some lead patches for the korg m1 and thats it.

I dont want long conversations over this issue which people already started.

Dude, you ask for help, and people start talking in the thread... Then you tell them to not talk? What the HECK is a forum for anyway??
You know what? If you want sounds, why don't you ask POLITELY and PATIENTLY. This sort of behavior is considered rude and you'll not be getting many sounds that way.
What you will get is a swift "do it your goddamn self" from people who WERE willing to help you before you said stuff like this.

If you're THAT desperate - Start working on it yourself. It's not THAT HARD.
