I've searched the net for this and found a few good articles explaining what it is, but came up empty handed on how to actually do it. Is there a way to set this up yourself or is it like a special option only available for certain synths?

Hard sync or soft sync are both functions that the oscillator needs to support or have available for you to use it - it's not something you can just do by yourself if the hardware (or software) doesn't support it. It's an analog function, so you tend to find it on analog hardware synths or analog-simulation softsynths. Check out Arturia's Moog Modular, MiniMoog, and ARP 2600 emulations for sync functions, and I'm sure there are others that feature it too.

Ok, thanks. I'll try to find out if my hardware can do it or not...

Ryan, Your JD is one of the few pcm based synths that can do oscillator sync.

I've tried to read up about it and it seems that only the JD-990 (rack version) can do it, not the JD-800. If the 800 can, I haven't had any luck finding out how to do it. :(
