Some people like to be comfortable with the fact that NASA can track comets and meteors and know that we're not in danger any time soon. It's a good thing that they don't know how from just the right angle, something could sneak up on us and we wouldn't know it until it was already too late. Although...it would be "too late" if anything that large was going to hit us, even if we knew it. There's no ability for us to just get out of the way, and you can't blow that shit up like in Armageddon.

I studied some of that stuff in astronomy the past year. A comet that size (over 100 KM) would end life on earth as we know it. Even one 10KM would create the "nuclear winter" effect.
