Well m8, i have a simple question...

i'm new in the world of midi, and i would like to ask if my connections r ok.
I have a kurz k2600 (yes is back!) that i would like to use as master Keyb. Tomorrow i'll buy some midi patch and i would like to control my Triton Extreme and Karma with Kurz.
After readin' some on internet my connections will be:
Kurzweil OUT -> IN Triton Thru -> IN Karma

Is this configuration wrong? I'll play exclusively on Kurzweil...

I need to loopback Karma out with IN on My kurz?

Thank u !

Your basic setup is correct, but do not connect MIDI from the Karma back to the Kurzweil, unless of course you wanted to control the Kurzweil from the Karma, which you say you do not. Actually, sending the MIDI Out from the Karma to the MIDI In on the Kurzweil wouldn't be a problem, but you definitely don't want to send the MIDI Thru from the Karma back to the Kurzweil, or you'll have a MIDI feedback loop. It wouldn't destroy the Kurzweil or anything like that, it's not like an audio feedback loop, but it would cause double-triggering of the Kurzweil and rob you of half your available voices.

Otherwise, MIDI Out from the Kurzweil to MIDI In on the Triton, MIDI Thru from the Triton (which is the same data as the MIDI Out from the Kurzweil in this case) to the MIDI In on the Karma, as you say. You'll need to set your MIDI channels on each instrument differently so you can selectively control the two slaves, and program the Kurzweil so splits and layers control the different MIDI channels and the different synths.

Thanks alot rlainhart!

So for example... I can assign Ch. 1 to K2600 Ch. 2 to T.E. Ch. 3 to Karma... And then when I need a patch from Karma i'll set it on the keyboard ( i'm not too expert to make a program change now :P ) and then i'll say to Kurzweil to play from MIDI ch. 3?

I think I have understood... Or maybe not :)

TY!

It's nor wrong what you're saying, but this way you don't use all the power the midi-chain gives you.

Take a setup on the kurzweil, which consists of zones. If a zone is local it will control the kurzweil zones, you can use all midi channels. If a zone is midi, the data will be sent out on the midi port, again you can use all channels. Instead of switching the sounds at the karma you should enter the program changes directly in the setup and store it, so you don't nee to touch the karma even when you're changing sounds.

Since now you're sending midi-data on some of the 16 channels to the karma and to the triton (nice setup by the way) you should define which data belongs to which device, since the program changes for the karma should be different as for the extreme, and you wouldn't always want to play both of them at the same time.

For this you should turn of the midi-receive on the karma and the triton for some channels, let's say turn off channel 9-16 at the triton and turn off channels 1-8 at the karma. What does your setup do now?

- everything you play on the kurz in a zone which is routed to midi and on one of the channels 1-8 will be received by the Triton.

- everything in a zone which is routed to midi and on one of the channels 9-16 will be received by the Karma.

- everything in a zone which is routed to local and on one of the channels 1-16 will be received by the Kurzweil itself.

WoW Thank u alot!
However i need to do some training on make program change... So in an early future (I Hope) I can buy Rack versions of TE and K (however i don't know if exist a rack version of the Karma).
If I route everything to midi channels 1-16 I'll play only with Triton and Karma Together? is this right?

Sorry for the n00b questions...

You're right - if you route everything to midi there's nothing left in the kurz (you can route a max of 8 channels since you only have 8 zones). If both the triton and the karma receive data on all channels they both get the same information and you'll be playing on both of them.
