Jordan, your playing on Octavarium is incredible. I really do think that your ability and skill as a musician leaped a few notches on it. A lot of my friends are heavily critical of your tendency to barrage the listener with death-defying chops and as much as I love your work, I'm inclined to agree at times.

That said, your playing on Octavarium is far more tasteful than I could have ever hoped for. The solos are few and far between, but they are--aside from the solos in "Beyond this Life" and "Blind Faith"--my favorites from you. You've really come a long way from the days of Speedway, Feeding, and RMP, and I just wanted to congratulate you on that.

So congratulations, Jordan! I know you'll keep progressing to new heights :)

I would say the entire album is more tasteful. Which is luck for me, because as much as i love DT, im really loosing interest in prog. Latley i cant listen to songs where the band puts their "chops" before the song.

Hats off to DT for this album.

As much as I love the DT stuff I own and the new album (from what clips I've heard!- will buy it soon.), I'd love to see Jordan hook up with John Petrucci, Dave Wreckl (Drums) and Gary Willis (Bass) do an out and out Jazz Fusion Album.

It would be really interesting to see Jordan & JP in the Jazz Fusion arena rather than the Prog Rock Classical Genres I've heard before.

Oh, ABSOLUTELY!!! I'm totally with you on that. BTW, I'll see the Dave Weckl band at the end of this month along with a couple of other cool names.. Maybe I'll make a suggestion to him lol

Ha..would be v.cool, I saw Dave Wreckl last year with the Chick Corea Electric Band, awesome, never ever been moved by a drummer as much as his playing...enjoy the gig...:)

BTw I guess the topic name isn't completely correct.

I don't think Jordan improved his skills.......
His keyboard compositions and chosen sounds on this album are more for your taste in music :)

Alright, alright. Changed :)

Imagine hearing a Rudess vs. Corea thing. Much like Corea vs. Hancock, but on even MORE steroids.

EDIT: Title changes don't affect the thread title apparently :P

I think this should be next on the Jordan Rudess Project list....A Jazz Fusion album with various guests appearing (who would you like to see as a guest ?
Wreckl,Willis, JP & Holdsworth I would like on there)and even maybe some solo acoustic piano jazz pieces would be awesome....
I've only hear small elements of Jordan's jazz playing on some of his solo / DT work. Its time for a GENRE change....
