I may sound boring but i really need a mellotron sound for this board but i can^t create something very similar.. can somebody give me advices???? SAM

You might want to check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rolandrs/, maybe someone there could help you.

It doesn't appear that the RS series has any Mellotron string waveforms (seems to have some Mellotron choir though, strange it would have one and not the other...). If you want to try making your own, take a fairly realistic string patch, set the attack and release times to zero so it's instant-on, instant-off, and EQ or filter it to take out the highs and lows, giving it that low-fi quality. Add a bit of detuning too (or Analogue Feel, not sure if the RS has that parameter or not).

A little bit of ampsimulated distortion might help too.. It sounds strange, but, with a very low gain, it makes the sound overdrive a little (like the tape type of distortion) and makes it more nasal (is that the right word? my english is not so good)....

Good luck with it, i hope you can make something realistic.

I'm really trying but it seems that the buildres of this keyboard hated mellotron!!! I can't get nothing very realistic, but anyway I will work on it more and more because I have to get something!!! THaNKS for the advices and post more if u have more ideas. SAM

Layer some orchestral strings with solo violins. You can get some nice Mellotronie tones that way. And try the amp effect too if the RS has one, tho that might make it too nasal.
