I'm considering relocating to the Hartford area.

Anyone who could offer some advice? Areas with good schools for young-uns? Favorite places to hang? Live music scene? Getting around? Beaches? Living tips?

Thanks in advance fellas,

Jerry

You might want to compare the cost of living in the CT area to where it is you are now. Houses in that area ain't cheap and you may find it prohibitive.
But I suppose it's all relative.

I live in CT, and I find that I keep avoiding Hartford for many reasons:

#1 - it's almost, but not quite complete ghetto. There's nothing that the city can offer that's worth the trip over there.

#2 - at the larger music venues in the area, cars are often broken into, and the venue and/or city does nothing about this.

#3 - did I mention that it's complete ghetto? ;)

You might want to consider some of the upper middle-class 'burbs, such as Orange. Also, Seymour is seeing a bit of re-vitalization as a lot of the higher income families from Fairfield are moving in. Both are fairly close to New Haven and the Post road, which are the education shopping epicenters of Connecticut. There's some fairly decent beaches around there as well. Slightly further north of New Haven is Hamden. It's a very artistic and music-driven community. But generally speaking there are a lot of great, smaller venues in the area, and new england seems to be a fairly open place when it comes to accepting prog rock acts sand such.
