Hi Everyone,
Just thought id write another quick review of the Population 1 Cloncert (in Nunos words Clinic / Concert = Cloncert) i saw on Monday nite in Melbourne.
Walking away from that gig i could not believe that it only cost me $25 to see the best concert Ive ever seen!!! :) For those who don’t know Population 1 is Nuno Bettencourt's band. What a show!!
It was one of those gigs that shows raw and dirty rock (the way it should be). These guys toured without any techs so they did everything themselves, so when one of the DI's sh*t itself during Midnight Express, Nuno had to fix it all himself while Steve Ferlazzo (the keyboardist) kept the crowd entertained by playing snippets of Journey, Yes, Elton John songs.....really cool.
You gotta give it to Nuno, in the extreme days he played to 1000's of people at extreme gigs, and now he playes gigs like the espy (which had about 150 people). The thing is he gave 101% by playing his ass off and singing his lungs out!!! I was truly impressed by the energy of the show. Kevin Figuiredo (the drummer) was an animal....he punished his drums....but he was a true workhorse who controlled a tight outfit.
The band played songs that were written throughout nuno's career eg, extreme, mourning widows, schizophonic and population 1 songs. Plus he threw in some new ones from their yet to be released album.
Towards the end of the show he got two guys on stage to jam with the band (every musicians dream....imagine jr pulling you out of the crowd to jam with DT). The first dude was pretty cool, the 2nd was a bit of a tool / show-off and started shredding and then nuno told him "next time try playing in the right key"
There were a lot of people giving sh*t in the audience and Nuno showed that he was quick to give sh*t back....and he did manage to embarrass a few morons (which i found hilarious).
Truly an amazing show. If anyone gets the chance check it out, its worth it!!!:)
