sometimes I feel like ppl are more focusing about who's better, who shred faster, who own more keys.. forgetting music.

my 2 cents,
Luca

Who gives a shit about who's better? He's pretty damn amazing and that's all that's important. In the end it's the music they create what counts, and not their technique. If you ask me, I prefer Kurt Cobain to Michael Angelo.

There is no such thing as better. Faster? No he's not the fastest. But for then again, there are room-musicians who are faster then JP. But i don't really see them as musicians.

How do you mean better???

You have musically OR emotionally.
You have some real shredders, who are fast as hell, but when you ask him/her to play a solo that "touches" you, then you are talking about another subject...

In defense of the original post, he asked if anyone could play "better," not necessarily "faster." Personally, and I'm sure the members of DT would agree with most of this, I think technical proficiency (speed, accuracy, ability to play complex fingerings easily, etc.) on your instrument is a worthy goal that most musicians should strive for. But if one doesn't learn to play meaningful music, then all you are is a keyboard Olympian - fun to watch for a bit, then you move on to something more interesting.

For the original question, I'm sure that a number of keyboardists, such as Vitalij Kuprij, Keith Emerson, etc. could give JR a run for his money in terms of sheer technique. Are they better?," I don't really know.

Whilst I completely agree that it's not about who's best or fastest.

But seeing Jordan work upclose I can easily say that he's there with the few elite......

How he plays, the ease in improvising, the handling.
Jordan feels the music before he plays them, he's breathing the notes

just my 2c

Sorry i posted that. I mean that he just press the right buttons :)
I can feel that he's playing absolutely the right things, musically.
Technically or fastest I don't give a shit, but he's damn right fast too.. :)

It depends what you mean "better". You mean more melodic and listenable? I would say Tony Banks' solos in Genesis are "better" than any keyboard solo on Scenes or TrOT. You mean more technical, or faster? Well, that I don't know but I think there's more to music than how fast you can play an ascending arpeggio or scale.

IMO JR is the number one musician I dream of being able to match on any level, whether writing, expression, technical speed, sound creation, gear knowledge or performance. Others are better at individual aspects of music but I dont know any others that have quite such a complete package.

Yeah that's what amaze me so much about Jordan. He's such a good all-around musician. He can play and jam so well on any kind/style of music. His classical background his definitely the root of all evil, eeee I mean the root of all he can do, + a little bit of curiosity and determination on the way :)

I really like this title for a future Jordan album : The Root Of All He Can Do. A kind of masterpiece like interstices, which mixes all kind of styles so nicely.

hahaha I love when I can make myself laugh :)

Time to go kick some asses in dreamland!

Whether a solo or riff "touches" you is a matter of taste ofcourse.....

........that's so personal, you can't discuss it.
I guess the popularity of a song shows how many people are touched by it.

Alhtough I'm just thinking of "Idols" "Superstar" "Popstar" etc.
That doesn't touch people, there's money behind it.
