Okay, I know there may not be lots of guitarists here, but there are lots of musicians, and you can probably help me. A friend asked me what these words mean, and Im not sure about it so I came here...
Riff and Gig.
Thanks for any help.

Riff- A part of a song that is sort of an ostinato. Ex: The beginning of The Mirror, the dahduhduh. Thats a riff. Understand? Its like a part of a song. Ohh yeah, and usually the guitar is in charge of the riffage, but in the case of DT....JP,JM, and JR all do riffs.
Gig- A show. A concert.

Riff is short for rhythmic figure, I believe.

Neither of those are exlusively guitar related... I still refer to things as Keyboard "riffs".
