View Full Version : Quick Sampling Question
I'm going to sample a trumpet player this weekend using the sampler in my K2500XS. According to a chart I got off the net a trumpet's frequency range (including harmonics) is approximately 180Hz to 9KHz.
When I choose the sample rate, should I choose the lowest rate that gives me a flat response up to 9Khz?
It seems that if the lower rate takes up less memory and can be transposed up the keyboard farther, that I would want to use a lower rate.

I read thru most of that. I'm fairly familar with how to sample. I need advice on some of the settings.
The articles seem to have this theme where they would describe the trade off between quality (freqency response) and file size. But, then they would have comments like, "So you need to ask yourself, do you really need to sample that kick bass at 48."
That's my question. I want the article to tell me. Is there any benefit to sampling a kick bass at 48? I don't know. Is there? Currently I'm more interested in Trumpets.

I always try to sample at the highest frequency possible for the greatest possible detail.

Try to sample at twice the frequency of the sound as a minimum :)
Check out Nyquist and you'll see why ;)
