Hi all. This Christmas, santa brought me Keyboard Wizardry. ive watched it a couple times and since the first time through, i notice that i really want a kurzweil badly. now, this question might belong in the gear section, but im not sure, but in the video, he says that all he uses live is his Kurz and no racks or anything. that was then, but does he still only use that now? sorry if this is in the wrong section. thanks for ur help ne one

That was then. ;)
Jordan has in his studio, a Korg Karma, Triton Rack, a K2600RS, Roland V-Synth, a Novation of some sort, a Yamaha Motif, minimoog Voyager, etc etc.
Live, he uses the K2600XS, two K2600RS racks, the Karma, and two Triton racks.
The Kurzweil is a very versatile synth capable of multiple forms of synthesis, but it is a very deep and complex monster to master. It also has considerable drawbacks compared to modern workstations - polyphony limitations, and poor presets being the most prominent. For the average user, it's just far too much, feature-wise, as most people end up using less than 10% of its overall features, though I'm sure that Jordan's endorsement has sold quite a few of them. ;)

Presets are not the best, that's for sure, but the Best Of VAST collection which has been recently released for K26xx with ROM1 and ROM2 has improved the situation a bit. Polyphony is always a relative problem, the MOTIF may have huge polyphony for simple layered sounds, but when sounds get more complex, even those sounds will use up lots of the polyphony reserve - another famous example is using sustain pedal with piano (which is known to cause polyphony problems on ANY synth - hmmm, I've got an idea: what about triggering a quite wet reverb effect with sustain pedal instead of the sustain MIDI command ? that should do the trick as well ... I'll check that out afterwards )
