View Full Version : What makes you wake up in the morning?

Your childs, your gilfriend/boyfriend, your pets, your keyboard, your job, the sound of the toilet when you flush it, JR, DT, anything?
We all hang on to a lot of things, but what is THE thing that keeps you alive?
Personally, I'd like to be able to play some difficult classical stuff, such as Chopin etudes and Rachmaninov's all-kind-of-things. Right now, this is the dream that keeps me awake. I have other ambitions, like founding a family, but this one is more important to me.

1) The urge to urinate.
2) An erection that won't go away.

Well,
Since my 2nd daughter is now 6 months old, nothing wakes me up in the middle of the night. I'm catching up on several months of lost sleep ! :)
But I still need lots and lots of Starbuck's coffee in the morning.

Yeah man I think to that very often. I am so lucky just to be there and be in a good overall situation. I saw somebody on TV yesterday who was blind since he was 2 years old or something like that, but he still managed to become a Jeopardy champion! There's no better proff that where there's a will, there's a way! And thanks to the visibility that it gave him, he met his wife and now has a children.
To see people in such a difficult situation and still be able to enjoy life, I can just appreciate more the gift that I was given.

This obstreperous clamor emanating from a rectangular entity. I feel drawn towards its aural pulsations. Anyone else experience this phenomenon?

I had the same dream - playing rachmaninov's stuff, i'm in love with it! but then i thought screw it, just do it, so now i know his prelude in C# minor, i'm learning his prelude in G minor (amazing piece!) and..................(drum roll........)
I CAN PLAY HALF HIS 2nd CONCERTO!! yey!! i'm so proud of that. the middle section and parts of the first section i can play, which without being boastful i thinks a bloody good achievement!
But just the need to be as good as i can on piano/keyboard makes each day a big push to strive for perfection!
in terms of how i wake up, my phone plays an alarm.........

Before work, I had very little reason to wake up and face the day.
Now, I have even less...

Good one, Axiom! Although I use two mugs (minimum) of dark-roasted black coffee.. accompanied with some Keith Jarrett perhaps. Unless I have a hangover, in which case add 1,5 liters of mineral water and turn Jarrett down a few decibels .

lol...recently, i've been waking up because my girlfriend started her summer job, and calls me at noon everyday during her lunch break! i'm trying to be a musician here, and she wakes me up at noon!!!! outrageous!
haha, juuuuust kidding. noon isn't that bad, plus it makes me get up and not waste too much of the day sleeping. i just finished college, so i'm currently only doing music/band stuff.

I don't think you could resume my situation better :) Its rather the goal of being fluent with the instrument than play "difficult" classical stuff, but it still includes it.
I started to take back classical lessons in January but I had to stop because I got a tendinitis in both arms, which I still have since 3 months.... Its getting better, but it still feel painful at times, so I can't practice at all.
And my clock also rings in the morning, but sometimes I ignore it. That's what is cool about having a flexible schedule!
What wakes me up in the morning?
The drive home from work!

Do I miss that time... I had plenty of time when I was in college! Back then my goal was to have a Motif ES 8, which I now own since a few months, so my next target changed! And is still a long way to go...

Sorry i didn't understand that - resume it better?? sorry i'm slightly thick sometimes.... i don't know, the whole "hard" classical music doens't matter too much, although i like it, its just the "feeling" of progress that is the best thing ever. It totally sucks when you can't play and i really know how frustrating it must be for you.....hope it gets better soon!

Well you were saying something like "My goal is more to become a good player" and that's also what I meant instead of just "I want to play tough classical stuff". That what I think of (and know I will be able to do) when I'm a bit desperate or in a bad mood : thinking of those days where I will be able to play again, and play well.

We use the expression "inner clock" in Germany, maybe you can't translate it into englisch. When there's something important, I always wake up at the right time, no matter how much sleep I had.

When there's something important, I always wake up at the right time, no matter how much sleep I had.
Some weeks ago there was a cool thing: I had to play a gig in the morning and had to drive some distance to the place. So I had to get up at 4.30 am.
I set my clock's wake up time at 4.25 but forgot to push down the knob to actually activate the alarm.
Finally I woke up by myself in the middle of the night and wondered why. Then I recalled, ahh I have a gig. And I looked to the clock ... and you'll guess it: exactly 4.25
So call that an atomic internal clock! ;-)

Inner clock is exactly what I've heard it referred to in english.

Often i need to go to the bathroom and then i try to fall asleep again for one or two more hours, but then i usually cant sleep anymore. So i just lie there.. and relax a bit.
