Just checked the Dream Theater site looking for which summer concert to buy tickets for - when I saw their co-headline...Megadeath!

WTF?

Dream Theater is a premier progressive band with some of today's best musicians. Megadeath is just another metal band IMHO. They aren't in the same league as the Theater. This was a bizarre move on their part.

I don't mean to offend any Megadeth fans....I'm only questioning how the promoters came up with this idea since I doubt there is much fan crossover.

For the first time in years, I'll pass on seeing Dream Theater this year.

Gods, do what I did when Lost Prophets were at Metallica, just chill around outside.

You're really overreacting. I know people that went to LINKIN PARK to see Metallica.

Dedication these days...

It's MegadETh instead of MegadEAth. To be honest, I don't really like Megadeth too. I own 3 albums, RIP, Youth and Countdown. Youth & countdown are great, RIP doesn't do anything to me.

Besides my opinion about the music, I think the actual idea of starting this tour is pretty cool. And to see DT and SymX on one stage is....

It's perhaps the Dave Mustain Gigantour? ;)

So you'll pass just because DT will coheadline with uncle-Dave? It's a little exagerated. Anyway just my opinion.

BTW the Glorius Heavy Metal Era ot the 80's is passed now (like the Jedi Order and the Old Republic :) )...but to say that Megadeth is "just" another metal-band it's a little reductive, and i'm not a Big-Fan of Mustaine...
It's like to say that Darth Vader was just another Sith...(maybe the comparison is not proportional, anyway...i've the Star Wars fever in these days)

WOOOOOAH i cant wait ANYMORE...i want to see Episode 3....

Sorry.

P.S: Mike Portnoy from DREAM THEATER comments on the band’s perspective on the tour. “I think we probably bring some diversity to the bill, because we’re kind of like chameleons--we can fit into a lot of different situations. We’ve done shows in the past with Iron Maiden, Slayer and Pantera, and then we’ve also done shows with Elton John, Yes and Deep Purple. I think our fan base is very diverse like that too.” Portnoy sees GIGANTOUR as a “kind of a meeting of musicians and metal-heads.” He adds: “I’ve been listening to MEGADETH since day one and always admired them and Dave as an artist--he’s constantly stuck to his guns and stuck by the music he believes in. MEGADETH are one of the pioneers of the genre.” GIGANTOUR marks the first U.S. leg of DREAM THEATER dates in support of their forthcoming release OCTAVARIUM, due out June 7 on Atlantic Records.

Megadeth is a great band. I may not care for their past 3 or 4 albums, but before that, they were real ground-breakers. As mentioned before, this is DAVE's tour and the guys in DT respect him for his dedication to music. He's one of the iron men of metal. Shit often doesn't work out for him and he's a bit of a fuck-up, but he sticks with it if all his fans respond well or not.

As for the cross-over, you couldn't be more wrong. I discovered Dream Theater through the Megadeth messageboard about 8 years ago. They were tremendously popular over there and they still are. Megadeth fans tend to like a huge range of progressive rock, progressive metal, death metal, thrash metal and just about anything else.

You simply couldn't be more wrong. Just about any fan of metal loves, or at least respects, albums like Peace Sells and Rust in Peace. They also put on a great live show with an always-different mix of lots of old tracks.

I'm active in the megadeth.com forums and you can notice lots of people who are into Dream Theater, me being one of them.
I'd be glad if the Gigantour also reached Europe sometime - we'll see.

I think DT's last album is perfectly acceptable to a Megadeth audience; what was funny, of course, is that having made an album whch would dovetail into a Megadeth tour, DT then supportd Yes on tour; it would be ironic if they now tour with Megadeth on the back of an album that - hope against hope! - would more fit in with a Yes support slot.

IMO, while they weren't as popular as Metallica, Megadeth was, and is the best mainstream thrash metal band. A solid lineup of drummers, bass players, Dave's great riffs, and a great ensemble of lead players with Friedman, Pitrelli and Poland. I think the band that will seem more out of place will be Fear Factory. I like them a lot, and they're one of the first bands to get me into heavy music, but the staccato riffing doesn't hold a candle to anything Petrucci or Loomis will play.

Well, you may not have meant to, but you did just offend lots of Megadeth fans on lots of levels.

Megadeth was one of the only metal bands in the "age of 80s metal" to succeed and make it into the mainstream with some really musically complex stuff. Sure it's not in 11/8, but they were much more musically intricate than any other band that made it into the mainstream at the time, and I think there's somethign to be said for that. Rust in Peace is one of the greatest Metal albums of all time...

While DT may be the greatest Prog Metal band ever, don't forget the word "Metal" is in their genre title. They are not merely a prog band. They're playing in June with Maiden, Motley Crue, and a lot of other straight up metal. I think that Megadeth and DT are a perfect pair, and throwing SX into the mix...this concert will show what can happen when true musicians are given the power of METAL!!!

Megadeth was a huge influence on the more metal oriented members of DT, not to mention being one of only a few handful of bands that can legitimately lay claim to helping invent the thrash genre. I'm sure DT is honored to be sharing the stage with them. This tour also offers an incredible opportunity for DT to play to large crowds here in America who may not know who they are yet... There are several other great bands playing too - Dillinger Escape Plan in particular is a band that not many people know of who are gonna turn some heads - it's crazy stuff.

Megadeth is one of those bands who have influenced many musicians. They've been around for a long time and have gone through many negative situations yet remain to stay true to what they're about unlike some other metal bands. They're not just some ho-hum band just because they're not a prog band, before there was prog metal there was traditional/speed/thrash metal and thats what the guys that started up prog bands listened to.

Its Dave's tour he organized it and he's obviously open minded to get DT to co-headline and load up the tour with a number of different styled bands. With all that Dave has been through I cant see anyone dissing the guy. Not many musicians have damaged nerves so bad that they had to re-learn how to play their instrument let alone release a killer CD after all of that.

Dave actually played with Metallica before he formed Megadeth.

I think Megadeth is amazing, and I also think that you are underestimating the amount of crossover fans. I think both DT and Megadeth are great bands, even in different ways.

I love Megadeth! Angry Again is such a good song... I got in to Megadeth for free when they came out here to Australia

Anyway, I don't see why people are complaining :P both bands are great, both have massive fan bases who love them... both bands are incredibly talented in different ways

Ouch....That's gotta hurt for the metalheads...

Damn, megadeth is an AWESOME band , I listen some of their material EVERY DAY! , or almost everyday , someone said before , that megadeth was one of the first bands to actually add some really complex stuff to metal. 110% true, marty friedman solos in hangar 18 for example or in tornado of souls... ITS KILLER! , He played with Jason Becker in the past, he is an amazing musician,. He left the band , but dave is the mastermind there , He compose all the awesome riffs, that fill their songs. I think that Megadeth / Dream Theater, would be the best thing ever in my life,

"Musicians and Metal heads"

Yeah , sure, listening DT , makes you a musician , damn, what a stupid thing to say. Being a musician is not about what you hear, or like, is about how you understand music ,and how you are able to speak through it...
I know guys who play in Heavy metal bands, but they are SO DAMN GREAT musicians, play almost every damn style , jazz ,latin samba, rock, pop etc, but they like playing metal, not for the complexity , but because what makes them feel, .. damn sorry for the long post , but I hate that kind of comment.

Or just the bands as both metalheads and musicians. All these guys were metalheads before they were professional musicians afterall.
