View Full Version : Problem with large headphones...

I don't know how people wear them! Whenever I wear big thick headphones, my head starts to feel hot, my sinus feels crushed, I get a headache, and my throat hurts! I don't feel it as much when there's actual music coming through it though, and I feel it less when my eyes are closed.
It's almost like some kind of claustrophobia. I managed to stretch them to stop them putting pressure to my head(was *near* unbearable, unlike previous phones which *were*). They're quite comfy now, but for some reason my nose/sinus throat is still weird and they make feel trapped a little.
Maybe I'm just not used to it?
Am I the only one that is affected this way?

Yeah I think you're the only person in the world with that problem :)
Well, seriously though, I guess it's possible that you have an extra-tight pair of headphones, but usually I can't stand to wear headphones for more than an hour UNLESS they're the large, ear covering type. In my opinion they are much more comfortable that "walkman" style cheapo headphones, and the sound quality is light years better.
I have a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M30 headphones that I really like, very comfortable and have great sound, cost me about $100 Canadian.

Rosie,
Here's a site link that provides lots of useful info...
Maybe you just need to replace your headphones with a more comfortable pair...

Hope this is useful.

If you do have to get some new ones, i'd heartily recommend Shure e2Cs - they're only about £70, and the sound you get out of them is just phenomenal. Plus, you can use them for live work as well.

I told you what headphones to buy in that other thread where you bashed expensive ones :P You want open-back for sure. HIGHLY recommend there: http://www.goodcans.com/HeadphoneReviews/grado125.htm or there: http://www.goodcans.com/HeadphoneReviews/60vs80.htm
Cheap, light, cool and some of the best in the world... Though not too attractive I guess.

I don't have that kind of money to spend on headphones. They'd probably get lost.

I did some research on cans last summer, and I've still concluded that the Sony MDR-V300's, at least up till that point were the most bang for the buck. They're medium sized, and only cost $40-$50 USD new, and you could probably get even better deals. They sound almost as good as ones several hundred dollars more, and I can wear them comfortably for hours upon hours.

I'll throw in a recommendation for the Fostex T50RP's that I'm wearing right now...

These would solve all your headphone problems...but would severely burn a hole in your pocket....then again...as a salesman would say...."Wouldn't you want to have the perfect sound experience rather than that long list of health problems!?" Just look at the headphones will ya?

Rosie is quite opposed to spending much money on stuff, from what she's said. If she won't spend that much on a keyboard, I'd be shocked if she'd go for headphones that are that expensive.

Uh, I'm poor? I'm a student, and I'm on work experience at the moment which is the only way I have money for the anaolg module I'm thinking of buying.
I'm on minimum wage, and I'll be only working another couple of months(Have to get off early, because of healthy/psyche/study issues). I only have like E1500 in my bank account at the moment, at most.
And being a transsexual in Ireland, have you ANY idea how costly that can be? I have to save over $1000 for facial hair removal(sensitive skin can only take so much clean-shaving) and hormone replacement therapy, and that'll only do for the next year and a bit. My parents are willing to spend money on shrinks, but more the "make you not crazy" type than the "actually help you get what you need" type. Not to mention I'll have to save a couple of hundred of that for other stuff too because my parents won't be giving me as much money.
Not to mention having to spend money on things to help relieve my depression, video games, comics, anything that's escapist. I'd rather not try weed because of the shadiness, but if it was legal I probably would just for the experience.
It still bemuses me how people can spend that much and think so little - this whole scenario has change the whole way I value money and what I do with it quite a bit. I felt guilty even for buying a Chorus pedal so soon after getting a new amp (old one went a bit bust), in the end, I quite NEEDED, and still feel guilty for even considering a Moon Phaser and Synth Module. I'll have to discount getting an EQ pedal - something I need two of really, for keyboard and guitar.
Not everyone can afford Tritons, or even consider an Oasys as something thy could ever have. I'm probably not even going to own a car for a long time to cut costs.
Playing guitar and keyboard, does open you to a world of stuff, some of it interchangable (pedals), but often just as a novelty. Costly. I can't choose one over the other, though I guess I'm really more of a guitarist, I do play guitar a lot more, but mainly only because I'm used to it. I'd love to be a near equal keyboardist.
I have to value my money. I've gone on some extravagancies, but only because it was something that I really could benefit from having, or really needed to cheer me up from depression. I'd feel bad spending 30 euros on headphones, let alone hundreds.
Where DO you guys get all you money? Personally, I'd rather work less, and make do with what I have. I'm building up enough guitar pedals now, and I'm learning to work with a simpler synth than you guys have. I'd rather be stuck with what I have now, and be myself, than be working for the upkeep the whole time.
Just in case you were wonderring why I'm not loaded like you kids.
I'm happy with my U20. I ADORE my U20 as you've guess by now, but I'm not opposed to buying modules and stuff if they're cheap. Or the Planet Earth.

I, too, am a poor student. I just have a cheap MIDI controller and the college student discount (P2P) at my disposal so I can understand. However, you could probably replace your escapism spendings with something cheaper, like weed and tv/library books or even movies (if you take the aforementioned college student discount). I think I recall it's mostly shitty hash in Ireland, I'm not exactly sure. But yeah, give the weed a shot. It tends to help depression (from what I've seen/experienced) and especially chronic pain, which I know leads to depression -_-
