ANALOGUE(I am english!) OR DIGITAL D:

I prefer proper digital keyboards for the most part, because I like to have lots of different instruments and be able to control them, but still appreciate the old style analogue synth.

On a slightly off topic note, I much prefer analogue effects, though, at least guitar effects. I like havin' a few good stompboxes I can chain. I feel like I've more control.

This has probably been done 1000 times before but I didn't see it >.>

"Search is your friend!!!"
hahah just kidding, I'm pretty sure this hasn't been done before in this part of the forum anyway (at least I havn't seen it yet)

Me, I prefer digital, purely for simplicity and ease of use...

But wait, do you mean the sound? or the actual synth itself? or both? lol

Whoa, people voted here fast. I'm starting to feel a little bad for analog now.

And I obviously mean the all-round package :P

Ananlog is the sound to choose.....

It has the history, the warmth, the feel............

But I voted Digital since I like to play complex orchestrations etc. and Analog for me only gives me the chance play one part at a time

I'm a sort of synthesist so... analog all the way :) digitar are great, and moder powerful dsp gives us a lot of resources. But analog stills good due to warmth, unpredictability and feelings. I love them :)

Can´t you love both ? Or is that infidelity ? Then I must say my first love was analogue, but there certainly great digital (Oasys) monstersynths nowadays.

I guess my answer is obvious- I use Analog for all my leads, digital for things like Mellotron, some brass and sampled piano. IMO the warm fat sound of an analog will never be emulated by a digital. Even sampled digital doesnt give you the right feel. Besides all that I like real time controls and alot of older digital doesnt have it.

how about Virtual Analog? some brands are making huge steps forward in sense of analog circuitry emulation... "imperfetions" inculded :)

I like both for different purposes. I love the sounds of those old Moogs, ARPs, Oberheims, CS-80s, etc... but I also like more "modern" sounds like FM and some PCM based stuff (things like the Yamaha SY/TG series), as well as full samplers. I think a really comprehensive keyboard setup would include both.

Also, the Andromeda is not VA, its just A!

Both for me too please !
JD-800 sorta does that in one box :)

Both. For buying purposes, I'd go digital though, more bang for the buck.

@Axiom: I think you must be ok with a Nord Modular G2X...what else do you need in terms of VA?

Whatever the hell gets the job done.

I´m with Scrap......depends on the type of keyboard player you are and the music you want to make

In fact, I think what you mostly are thinking of here are not really digital synths. Those are either workstations (like Triton and stuff) or Samplers or VAs (trying to emulate analoges in a digital way).
Speaking of "Digital SYNTHESIZER" would mean something like Yamaha DX7 or Roland D-50 and stuff.
So the borders of Digital and Analog are melting in terms of definition.

That being said, I voted for Analoge, as I have both a real digital synth (DX7) as a real analog (Oberheim Matrix 1000) and I like the analog Waaaay more! ;-)

And If ou mean comparing a real analog Synth with a digital workstation, I would also vote for Analog, cause it always has "Those Balls". The flexibility argument (splits layers, complex orchestration) doesn't count, as you have nealy the same flexibility with the right analogs (Alesis Andromeda, Oberheim Matrix 12/Expander, SqSq Prophet 5) - as far as they have midi and patch memory, there are no limitations...

What breaks the enthusiasm is money, of course and reliability.

And of course you can combine the analogs with a Sampler for the "real instruments" stuff like piano and stuff.

Virtuuals like the Ion, Andromeda, and Virus are all GREAT boards but they still arent a Moog or an ARP. That analog sound cant be duplicated with an analog filter in a digital board. At least thats what I found, but... If some one would like to send me an Andeomeda to compare my address is...............

Virtuuals like the Ion, Andromeda, and Virus

Again, the Andromeda is real analog, not virtual.

I meant everything incorporating digital, including workstations, DSP, keyboards, digital pianos, as well as digital synthesisers, and everything incorporating analogue, which is pretty much analogue synths, but also analogue effects over digital effects, etc, etc.
