A lot of people are saying that keyboards aren't used in proper capacity as much anyone, which is true for the most part.

However, there are many goth/industrial bands still going to this day. They don't quite have mad soloing leads (they don't really have many guitar solos either), but there's still some quality synth work going on.

Industrial is a much better version of techno(IMO), it's a bit like "techno rock", but hard to describe, it often, but doesn't always have distorted guitars so I'm not so sure because of that. Techno has "bop", industrial has "bang". Industrial would possibly be more likely to have more impressive leads.

I'm not too well up on industrial to be honest, but I am fairly well up on Gothic Rock.
Now, this does make wonderful use of keyboards.
Albums such as The Sisters of Mercy's Floodland("Colours" is amazing), Switchblade Symphony's Three Calamites, and anything by Bella Morte all make good use of Synth tones. Not to mention Alien Sex Fiend, and Ms. Fiend's early sci-fi movie style analogue synth sounds.
It's generally used to add to the dark atmosphere and create some out of the world sound. Other bands such as Joy Division, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Bauhaus use them somewhat more lightly, but they're still there every so often, and do genuinely add something when they're used.

Of course, the Cure still use keyboards, and the albums Pornography and Disintegration, to name two, used some lovely sounds.

Goth is one of the few genres where it's still "cool" to be a keyboardist. Unfortunately, it's woefully misunderstood.

Hmmm, what about Rammstein, Flake Lorenz, would you class that as industrial? Although he's not known for his technical ability, I think he's come up with some nice patches...

Rammstein is Industrial Metal, not Industrial. Not quite the same. I like them, but their lyrics are bit too simple for my liking :P
