Well, you came to the right place (though perhaps not the right subforum), Mr. Rudess is probably most Rockin' (said not in a 50s style) Keyboardists around these days.

For other good examples of "Rock" keyboardin', try the bands "Muse", "Bella Morte", "Lordi", "The Sisters of Mercy", "The Doors(duh :P)", "Alien Sex Fiend"(old school analogue synth fun). They're only ones I listen to mind, and that come off the top of my head.

Oh, and Van Halen for the laugh XD Doo, doo, doodoo, doodoo, do do do! I can't get Jump out of my head...

The classic prog rock bands like Pink Floyd, the Yes, and Rush might do good things to your ears too.

Today's musical world is so competitive....I have just recently got into the rock world a year ago too so I know how you feel! The band that got me into rock was Pink Floyd, Queen, Jimi Hendrix, the Who....Try looking at how it all began by listening to some Classic rock music. Then look at 80's rock...see how rock took a turn with the HEAVY usage of synths. I would suggest viewing groups like Metallica, Symphony X, and of course...Dream Theater! DT started in '89. Rock is definetely a huge, continually expanding group of music. I would suggest listening to alot of DT cd's like Train of Thought, and look at some of their side projects like Liquid Tension Experiment and LTE 2. I am absolutely hooked on DT because of their talent and I admire them greatly. So, do your research on different rock bands, starting with classic rock, and see how it all started! Then, Look for more current bands...Listen to their music and see if it "turns you on" to listen to! If you need help determining where to start, ALL of us here at the JR community will get you started on some GREATLY talented musicians in which you can develop your knowledge of the rock world! Welcome to the JR community. See you around!

Just started playing some dream theater the other night. After I listened to Space dye vest I just had to learn it. I've started learning some Queen as well, that stuffs cool. I've always been a fan of old school music but it wasn't until recently when I really got into playing it.

Oh And thanks for recommending Rush. Rush in Rio is so awsome!

By The way does any one else do this? Learn a guitar peice like metallica on pinao. It really started to improve my speed!
