midi question

Ok, I've heard a little about the whole thing, but instead of looking, I'm just gonna ask my question(s).
Using my notation software, I can somehow get the downloaded midi into my program, correct? I have PrintMusic 2001. Do I need a program that displays notes from .mid files? (i mean, i guess i do).
i'm not sure what else I need...

try cakewalk pro audio, load the *.mid file there, select the track you want and go to staff view.
