Close your eyes and begin to relax... I just found this piece I recorded some years ago, still I like it very much. It has about 3:45 min, so take some time to listen to it :-)

It's written as a film-score style, the image I had in mind was something like a submarine. Imagine the deep dark sea which you discover in some science fiction submarine, then you'll get the idea behind the song.

It actually consists of two parts, in the middle between there's a short passage, in which I wanted to have something going on, like a speaker giving an introduction or a monlogue, something like that. Since I have nothing to put in yet I shortened it, so you don't have to wait all the time :-)

Any comment is very appreciated!

For the technical side: I wrote all parts as midi data and then recorded it with cubase through my N5. I also used cubase-effects for delay and stuff. The only thing played live is the lead at the end - perhaps I should also record the piano to make it sound smoother, we'll see...

Thanks :-)

It's not recorded, at that time I didn't have a Kurzweil yet. It's all recorded through a cheap Korg N5 with some cubase-efects on it.

lol - I thought about recording it again with Kurzweil sounds, but that's a lot of work.

The N5 may be cheap, yet is one of the best purchase I ever made IMO! ;)

@Taurus: if you refer to the last part where the piano comes in - you're totally right :-)

@Wizard: the N5 was my first real synthesizer, and it still work 100%. I even got a N1R to use on stage - while 50% of my sound come from my K2500XS the other 50% are from the N1R :-) this may have different reasons, but for this price this synth has everything you really need.

That's very nice job!! I love Korg sounds!! :) I can feel the submarine/deep dark sea going on... you just need a 3D animation to match it up now :)

The N5Ex was released, too. I never tried it though, and never read through its features, so I don't know the real differences between the two different models...

Yeah, that's it, rock'n'roll! I had this idea some years ago - to produce an own animation film based on music and atmosphere, or some kind of music-video - but from a realistic view that's far too much work :-)

@Marco - the difference as far as I can tell is a kind of additional piano-rom. Since the N1ex has 88keys that makes sense. After some searching in the waveform of my N1R I found it (no new presets with it...), but it's not that much better.

Its good that you know how to use all posibilities of one synth. While I'm a 'right-tool-for-the-job' guy i have the same feelings about Rolands JV-1080. If programmed correctly its an all-round synth thats still usually for most of todays music.
Also, not every patch has to be uber-shiny-perfect in a song. It's often the role they play thats more important than the highest quality. Besides, your leadsounds on this song is sufficient and works fine.

Not much more then... I thought it had different presets... Anyway, I'm satisfied with the "base" model! :)

Yeah.

Imax can you tell me something about your past as a musician? Are you interested into soundtrack a lot? Do you also make other kind of soundtracks?

I'm primary a live-musician, since I got most of my experiences on stage including playing and live-rig-engineering. that's what I'm doing nearly every weekend and that's where my money comes from now.

On the other side I have some good recording equipment at home for tracks like the one you were listening to. This also includes recordings together with other musicians. Those "soundtracks" aren't made for existing videos, but I like filmscores because of their deep atmosphere. They're often very melodic and express feelings through music more than "single tracks".

It's so great to listen for example to the "Lord Of The Rings" soundtrack, because you don't hear only the music, at the same time you see thousands of orcs running against you, or having the camera flying over endless landscapes... as I said, pure atmosphere :-)

My past as musican was: about 6 years of classical training, then 4 years getting to know a lot about band-music (4 different bands at the same time, writing own songs, making recordings, working for the PA...) and now about 4 years of professional music including booking, webdesign, optimizing my rig...
