I see there are many talented people on this forum, which is why this forum is so great, so my question is:
What have each of you guys accomplished as a musician so far?
(bands, conservatories, published CD's etc)

Thanks, and good luck everyone whatever path you choose, musician or non-musician.

Hrmmm... lets see... In my (nearly) 11 years of musician-hood lol I have...

wait first of all, is this a brag thread? I'm gonna have fun!!! hehehe

Got my Diploma of Music at 11 yrs old
Studied at the Australian National Academy of Music
Done numerous TV appearances playing piano
Done numerous Radio Show appearances also playing piano and several interviews
Appeared in the newspaper several times because of my music
Competed at national level (unfortunately I didn't win any of them, but I was still top of my state so I'm happy with that)
Toured Japan as a 'young virtuoso pianist' (thats how it was marketed) with one other pianist and my old teacher
Currently playing in Chaos Theory which is a heavy metal band with a bit of label interest (have rejected one offer so far, we'll see if a better one comes along)

Mind you, I'm only 15 so we'll see how far I can take this music as a career

There's more, but I didn't want to go TOO overboard with the bragging hehehehe :D

Mmh, I'm 21 now and I'm playing sice I was 6 years old, here's what I "have":

- 2 CD with my former school-band, on which I'm playing and made the whole graphic-work (booklet, inlay card, label....)

- several bands with own music, one band was elected third as best band of the town (in a special kind of contest)

- a heavy-metal CD for which I produced an intro / outor and some keyboard parts

- www.7amp.de - one of my actual bands with which I'm playing nearly every weekend

- www.m-inkognito.de - my second band at the moment

- support for Nazareth and Spider Murphy Gang (www.weihnachtsrock.de)

- got a very cool DVD from this event (above) with great video and audio quality

- playing for one week in a holiday club on Djerba, Tunesien

- soon playing in an equal club on Fuerteventura

- playing on several events around here for companys like "Audi"

- playing at some nice venues around like "Loreley", "Rhein-Mosel Halle Koblenz", "Brückenforum Bonn" and soon "Rheinauen Bonn" (perhas the germans around know one or the other place)

- lost a lot of money for gear ;-)

I'm sure I've forgotten something, but that should be the most important things. Cool idea for a thread :-)

Holy crap! I mean, wow...That's really amazing. Congrats!
Started off as a drummer, but switched to keys at 18

2 CDs (actually four, but two are fake albums--i.e. they don't have labels)

Working on my Solo CD now

In a band called Frame of Mind (we're working on a concept album)

Played at everything from Hiltons to the Meadowlands Arena and back

Just finished building my home studio last summer. I mean the hammer and paint bucket kind of building, too

Random music awards that really don't mean didly-squat in the big scheme of things

Umm...I like old-fashioned donuts. And French Cruellers.

I started playing the drums when I was 12 years old...

After a couple of years of beating on pots and pans, my parents made me choose between becoming a musician or a criminal....

I didn't become a musician...

But that other carreer wasn't going to become a BIG success either, so I had to find something else, to make a lot of money with....

After years of intense thinking, I decided, to start building rotating keyboard stands....

And... work 40 hours a week for my employer....

And... without him, I would be living in a cardboard box.....

Stainlessly,

PS

Don't call me a loser :)

I started playing keyboards when I was 11 by chance. My parents bought me one of those toy-kbds for Christmas, I plugged it and started playing. Then I took lessons for almost two years, but I just wanted to play for fun while my teacher wanted to see me exercise 8 hours a day, so I showed him where the door was...
I went on playing by myself, and so I lost most of my technique. I started again a couple of years ago, still without lessons but in a more methodic manner.
I joined Scaly Anteater, my actual band (Rock covers), in August 2004, we've had quite success in the first months, but now we are temporarily "far from the scenes" (my god, it sounds so professional 8) ) mainly because our singer is ending her high-school.
We'll never become pros or semi-pros, I think, but what's important to me is that finally I found someone to play with and to spend some good hours that I'll never forget :)

Hmm, what have I done in the 20 years or so I've been playing? Couple of hundred gigs, mostly on bass (but also probably 1/4 on lead guitar, a few on keyboards and 3 on drums), playing in front of between 4 and 10,000 people. 2 solo albums, 2 "band" albums, 4 E.P.'s (3 on bass, 1 on drums), all independently released. I've played with probably the hottest Christian worship band in northern England, and been on the worship team for the ICCC conference 3 times (all on bass).

I've also acquired an enormous amount of gear, sold vast amounts as well, taught several friends bass who've turned out to be excellent musicians, led bands for musicals, written music for musicals, and most recently really focussed in on becoming a better drummer. Still waiting for the big break, but the band I'm putting together at the moment, while it will definitely be a slow process, has the talent to actually make a go of it if we all take our time and don't kill each other first :)

i started at the age of 10 i guess.. i practiced for about a year then shifted to the guitar.. Did a lot of gigs after that.. worked with a lot of musicians..
i think i earned quite a lot of respect in the local scene here..
it's been about a year since i started to take piano lessons again.. currently working with very talented musicians, working on LTE, Theater covers and some originals..

Started the piano at the age of 10.
Began with band(s) at highschool with a few schoolgigs, but it went more serious when a certain Standbuilder called me when I was 16 if I would join his band.

From there on I was in a few bands, did a couple of 100 gigs ( I guess) for 5-5000 people.
Made one cd (sounds cool but if you pay you can have everything, BTW it were only covers)

Didn't do much the last three years but now I'm in a band again.
Just had my first gig.........

I started on the recorder when i was 4 or 5. Since then I've played Hobo and bassoon. This until i was 20.

I started on piano when I was 4. Played musicals/bands and I've played crowds from 10 - 7000 people.

I think I'm on about 7 CD's right now. All independan labels.

Right now I play with a lot of nice people in a very nice band. About 80 shows a year. The most of those gigs are weddings and business parties.

I'm glad that I still can name my music as my biggest hobby.
never had the pressure to play music just to earn the money.

Cool what christian band is it? i'm in the north, so probably heard of them...

As for what i've done....not much really. i feel abit dwarved by everybody else so here it is anyway

Started piano when i was about 5 did a couple of tiny wee people gigs, but then money was tight so i stopped playing. after a couple of years at about the age of 9/10 i started playing violin, got to grade 5 and didn't like it so started the sax which is cool. then when i was 17 i started piano. that was last year in about december/january, and i've just strated my grade 7 piano so *hopefully* thats good.
Got a keyboard last year and started a band, but all went to uni etc. so that stopped. Just recently got a new keyboard and started a band doing dream theater covers which i can actually play (with hours of prcatice lol)

and thats it. oh just started a solo cd with my keyboard. should be an adventure!

Doubt you'd have heard of us, cos we weren't a named band, it was the worship band at my old church (Heywood Baptist Church) that was hot... we had the likes of Dave Woodman (worship leader, guitar and vocals) and Nick Breakspear (percussion) in our band, who are both successful Christian recording artists in their own right. Of course, Some Have Wings, Gallileo and The Timber Merchants were all Christian bands too, but didn't really do anything special (played Greenbelt with SHW once, but we split up 6 years ago)...

Been playing music pretty much all my life with a few breaks in my mid teens an my last 2 years of university, switched to keyboards when I turned 18 , (I’m in my mid twenty’s)

I’ve played from 1 to 50,000 people,

A well known (in my country) female singer gave me my first break, with her I’ve played many bars and opened for some international acts, that gave me a taste for the hired musician work, (bands are problematic) it wasn’t until last year that I joined a covers band, and also got called for a recording gig with one of the top 5 bands in my country they liked my work so I’m ^In The Band^, the Cd pumped out a national No 1 Single.

Toured My Country and Also played all the top bars with my covers band, currently i'm playing for a foreign singer doing some dates in my country , maybe if it goes well I’ll play on a couple of other central American country’s

My ultimate goal is eventually record my solo Cd

What have I done as a musician...?

Age 6 -12 Classical Piano training - Private Lessons

Age 10-18 Played the Trombone in Symphony bands, Spent one summer at Interlochen (1984). Toured with High School Symphony band, competing in various festivals, Canada, Florida, Pennsylvania and elsewhere. 1 year in Florida State marching band (1985).

Age 18-37 (current) Keyboardist for a number of bands based out of Washington DC, Northern Virginia and Baltimore Maryland.
Opened for several noteworthy nationals including Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers, Nils Lofgren of Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band, Loverboy, Firehouse, Megadeth, Warrant, and others. Toured most of the east coast as a headlining act, as far north as Portsmouth New Hampshire and as far south as Key West Florida. Got kicked out of Hotel in Indianapolis, simply because I had Long Hair. Sold out many clubs in the D.C. area. Eventually recorded and released the CD "Turn it On" with Baltimore's "Intuition", got distribution deal in Sweden with "MegaRock" records and ended up on a compilation CD with other Megarock label bands. CD is now selling well on e-bay and reviews can be found on http://www.heavyharmonies.com/cgi-bin/glamcd.cgi?BandNum=1848&CDName=Turn+It+On!
Then, I got out of touring and now basically I'm a hired gun taking on gigs as I can. I got married and have 2 kids, so maybe they will start a band and I can relax and go to their gigs and relax and drink beer.

I've been singing for as long as I can remember.
Picked up trumpet (coronet) at 11 (1980).
Picked up guitar at 14 (1984).
Played guitar, bass, keys (just chord changes, nothing special), drums, sang, etc. at high-school parties (basically, everyone who could play something would play it at a party so I tended to fill in).
Started college as a Music major (1987). Got tired of regurgitating when Beethoven/Haydn/Liszt died and didn't touch a single instrument that first year. Ended up getting a Masters in Chemistry (yeah, a little different than music).
Played bars and college gigs to partly pay for college.
Met my musical-"brother in arms" (who actually started out being my boss at Monsanto; 1994).
Have released two CDs (1999, 2002).
Started Fossil Records (1999).
Built home studio and I get to work in it every day (though, admittedly, it's not used enough for music :().

My accomplishments as a musician: a bunch of gigs and some amatuer recordings, as well as being pleased with myself so far (always plenty of room to grow, of course) and having the pleasure of knowing that others are touched in one way or another with my music.

Nothing published yet, but I have several things I'm working on that I hope to get out there eventually, including an all-keyboard (+ bass and drums) Satch tribute, and neoclassical and fusion material I've set aside and been too lazy to work on for awhile now. I'm also more and more pleased with my prog/jam rock band...I'll have to post our new recording in the showoff section later. The drummer apparently knows Ted Nugent's drummer pretty well, so there's potential for some sort of connections there.
