Hey guys,

If some of you will remember, I posted on here a couple of days ago asking advice and how to get a decent keyboard for $100 or less (what a joke - like you can even get a decent keyboard for that much, right?). Well, I've re-evaluated my situation and am ready to buy one of the above boards. I hear the Yamaha has a better piano sound, but the Casio has a Pitch and Modulation wheel, layering, and you can create your own sounds. Which would you get and why? Thanks a bunch. Hopefully more people reply to this - I am looking to own one of these in the next couple of hours. Thanks much and rock on!

Thank and later - Mike

<corniness>P.S. I am normally a guitar player, but this sudden interest in learning to play keys (thanks to the great JR) has me all giddy and crap. <corniness/>

Casio is famous for their production of cheap portable keyboards for kids, their stuff was not that pro.
I'll go for old Yamaha synths such as SY77, DX7 etc.

yeah id go yamaha over casio, yamaha is the better name (they make real synths). if I were you id get an older yamaha like angelic layers suggestions or a psr model. Look for older used, you can get some really good deals. Of course any keyboard you would get that this cost would suck anyway, but casio try to polish their turdy machines to keep the kids interested with weak, extra gimmicky features. yamaha are a little less guilty of this anyway, with better sounds instead.

if you really are stuck at 100 dollars though, your options are really quite limited. most anything worth playing is at least 200-300. I don think you would be able to get either of the two keyboards you mentioned for 100... they both go for around 300 from what ive seen

Yeah - those both go for $300. I should also mention that I am getting a beginner keyboard. I know that Casio is known for "toy" keyboards, but I can really edit tones with that one. I really appreciate the advice here, but have either of you tried out the Casio that I am asking about? Just curious. There are some really great features. I am seriously looking at both brands. I have read reviews online where somebody owned a Yamaha DGX200 and wound up getting the Casio that I am looking at. Looking forward to some more feedback!

Thanks guys and later - Mike
